Kill Team - Battle Reports
Hey guys, just getting pretty serious into this Kill Team stuff. Its its own separate entity from 40k Now, different point values and different rules. Hell even different order to do things (which i admit we didn't expect so am still getting our heads around) Instead of your models just straight up dying now when they are reduced to 0 wounds you take a flesh wound test. on a 1-3 the model gets a "flesh wound", which makes everything he does at a -1 and everything your opponent does to him at a +1. The upside being you still keep a fig on the table, I like this because you can keep wounded guys running towards the objective and other guys fighting! But enough flesh wounds and you die anyways, i think 3. The big plus here is that every army is down to 4 ish pages including rules and point values (i also have a scanner *wink wink*), even some fluff to help you use D10's to get your units traits. You can name 3 specialists, Leader, Heavy and something else... These can actually gain experience and get better through a campaign/mission,if that is how you wish to play, you can totally play just open pew pew die. I honestly would like to try the missions and stuff i can find in the books and maybe even work a campaign around it if we can get enough players. I have 4 in Moose Jaw potentially 5. The only thing i'm not getting my head around is they recommend a 22"x30" battle field, and i wasted a ton of points on a 60" Sniper that i already modeled my fig with... Just felt a little cramped. But again this was our first run though with the rules and the game, took 2+ hours and with less than 10 figs each it definitely wont / shouldn't take that long haha.
Anyways my Skitarii Rangers squared off against Brian's Ork Boys!
I had 5 Rangers and 5 Vanguards with a few special rifles vs Brian's Burna Boys, Loota Boys and a Big Boss Nob (not Brian an ork ) and some Gretchins
We had alot to learn but this was a fun game, Brian made so many flesh wound rolls that alot of his figs held on until the last Flesh wound which was super annoying. In the end my Skitarii firepower pushed through, Orks only had some 12" pistols and some 8" burners and a few 24" heavy sluggaz and Choppaz in close combat are nasty. I had Rangers with 30" Rapid Fire str 4 guns (rapid fire gives you twice as many shots if the model is within half range) and some Radium Carbines with 3 shots each but at str 3 they had a hard time cracking the orks toughness. I managed to pick off enough Flesh Wounds on the Boss Nob that by the time he got to close combat he was hitting on 6's and i was hitting him on 2's. Honestly my high strength Plasma and Arc Rifles is what helped me get a few early figs off the table. But Brian focused those figs down quickly.
We didn't play any objectives or any stratigem cards or anything. Just was smashing face to learn the rules. I admit there was some things I wasn't a giant fan of, since the only way to crack armour is with AP and most basic units in close combat are just punching and kicking they have no AP, so my 4+ save was way to good in close combat against his 6+ Save, even though he was strength/tough 4 and i was stregth/tough 3 with less attacks my units seemed to fair better in CC. The flesh wounds helped with this and we didn't have enough terrain because i was able to shoot his figs a little to much before they got to CC.
Anyways sorry this wasn't as condensed as i intended. Let me know if there is even much interest for Kill Team or if anyone wants to know anything else or maybe needs me to scan and send them an email I'm going forward with either a Skitarii, Tau or Ork kill team myself i think. I hae enough Space Marines that i'm sure i'll throw a team of them together paint them and leave them. Teams dont have to be 10 guys, just 100 points. So if you follow the rules of your "Army Pages" you could aim for bigger nasty but fewer or for more figs but weaker. Looks like it'll be fun stuff for a quick game between 9th age games, because 9th age is still my primary focus.
Anyways, more to come!

I'd like to try it just for the excuse to style up a small group of 40k figs!

I've got 11 Tau Firewarriors assembled and waiting for paint from GW's last aborted attempt at Killteam. I painted one and I remember that I hated it, I'm willing to power through and finish the other 10 models if this is something people are wanting to play.

@ Carson - What team are you interested in?
@ Nathan - I liked the Tau figs tbh, and i liked your fig you painted up. Especially the base. Your Tau look awesome tbh, They only hit on 4's with their guns but they are Strength 5 guns which is cool, and can do supporting Overwatch (stand and shoot) when their other models get charged.
I'm doing my Tau up in the desert beige

Re: Kill Team - Battle Reports
I've read them once and haven't had a chance to play them. Rules seem very straight forward.
The big thing in this (8th) edition of 40k and by extension kill team is the command point / Stratagem system.
I kinda want the Rogue Trader box..
Also, I'm trying to figure out which specialists to go with. Eldar options are pretty limited.

I have the rulebook as well and a 100 pt. set Tau Pathfinder Kill Team I'm doing up in forest green with white accents and black clothing. I've only had one practice game but I look forward to trying more!

Ha, everyone is playing Tau? At least they’re all different. I’ll trade you a breacher for a pathfinder gunner with a rail rifle...

I could only have 3 gunners in a list and I only gave one of them a rail rifle so no deal. I like the idea of an all pathfinder kill team, but might add some of those stealth suits.

Re: Kill Team - Battle Reports
I bought the rogue trader set, was very disappointed, the majority of the plastic is the nurgle stuff, the terrain is just a couple doors for their little mission and idk how you'd use them regularly and the mission doesn't look like it can be played with anything but the Nurgle and Starstriders. Brian already bought the starstriders off me tbh haha. and Don's getting the Nurgle. The original box set was much more worth, two teams, the 20$ objective cards, 50$ rule book. the terrain was worth about 90$ i think. so worth imo.
I might have some extra Tau stuff, let me finish my team and you can have w/e. I'm going with some stealth suits so wont need all the guys / bits. And i have other teams that will be my primary focus. I'm kind of doing one and done for these teams. For now.

Re: Kill Team - Battle Reports
I've been making progress on my killteam, I'll post pictures when I have finished the two guys I'm working on right now. When those 2 are finished I'll have 4 firewarriors done along with a missile turret and a drone.
One thing I noticed while painting, the new blue wash is shit. It just doesn't work right, maybe it has too much black in it? Anyway, does anyone have an old blue wash that they don't want or has anyone found an alternative that actually works?

Re: Kill Team - Battle Reports
That's the one, Drakenhoff nightshade or whatever the hell it is called, might as well just call it bluish black wash. It goes on blue-ish but dries dark grey. The old one was asurian blue wash or something like that and was so much better.

Ah damn, thought the nightshade was the old one sorry, i do have a unopened old black topped Nightshade i bought for the Dark Elves back in the day but no Asurian Blue sorry. Idk if i've ever paid that much attention to it but i thought mine dried more blue and not grey... but maybe not. You could have just gotten a bad one?
