New Tomb Kings Army

Post  Trevor Y. on Mon Aug 15, 2011 1:17 pm

I saw picture of a well painted TK army, and my jaw dropped. Some beautiful minis in this army... I am really leaning towards getting this one. Someone on one of the TK forums said that I'd win more battles with Lizards, but winning doesn't matter as much to me as the look of the army on the table and the look of it on the battlefield...

If you were starting a Tomb Kings army from scratch, and were looking for a solidly playable Tomb Kings army against most opponents, what would your army consist of?

Well I've been doing a lot of research online... I've been told that if I go Lizardmen, I will most likely win a lot more than if I go Tomb Kings. But I think I like the TK models a lot more. I've always wanted to play chariots too, and they are a CORE selection, so that is a plus.

So here is what I am thinking of picking up this week to start with. Let me know if you think this is a good starting point:

1 box battalion (includes 40 skellies, 8 mounted skellies, 3 chariots)
1 box of Chariots (3 chariots)
1 Tomb King on Chariot (adding him to the 6 chariots)
2 boxes of Necropolis Knights (6 total)
1 Warsphinx
1 Screaming Skull Catapult
1 Casket of Souls
2 Liche Priest
3 boxes of Ushtabi with Great Weapons (9 Ushtabi)
3 Carrion (for Siege Weapon harassment)

Good solid purchases there.

Everyone has thier own ideas on what works and what dosn't. I havn't built a tombking's army for 8th yet but what generaly goes for one army goes for another....even undead. Big is where its at, and it looks cool as well. Large unit sizes are a must to endure the bucket load of attacks that are commonly seen in 8th. Personally I would build a very large block of tombguard with character support as my main block and then add skeleton bowmen as the secondary units. A good size unit of chariots is very effective but don't rely on them to be your big killers.

The idea behind this would be to field:
2x 20 Skeleton Archers
3 Carrion for harassment

Hard Hitters:
1) 6 Chariots + TK
2) 9 Ushtabi with GW
3) 6 Necropolis Knights
4) 1 Warsphinx

I could replace the 9 Ushtabi with 30 Tomb Guard. I've been flip flopping on this one. If I did this I think I would need a Necrotect to put in there?

With 30 TG, between the archers and the TG that is 70 minis right there, and that would be a small cost of my army (and a heck of a lot of painting!!!). Smile

This was my other option:
2 boxes battalion (includes 40 skellies, 8 mounted skellies, 3 chariots)
1 box of Chariots (3 chariots)
2 boxes of Necropolis Knights (6 total)
1 Warsphinx
1 Screaming Skull Catapult
1 Casket of Souls
2 Liche Priest
3 boxes of Tomb Guard (30 minis)
1 Tomb King with Great Weapon
1 Necrotect
3 Carrion (for Siege Weapon harassment)

So you think this is better?
