Who else is coming to this event? Andre, Wade, Paul, Bob, Zach, Nathan A., Pud, Joe, Geoff?? And do any of you guys know anyone else you can convince to come to help grow the hobby?

It would be a shame if there were more Moose Jaw guys there than Saskatoon lads.

I am going I am just not sure which army yet. That is the issue with asking what army :-). I have 5 painted armies and I like to rotate through them.

Sadly I seemed to have promised that weekend away with the wife but I did get a couple trips to Moose Jaw for some all day gaming.

I can't say for sure that I will be there, but if I can make it I'll be bringing lizards.

I'd like to see more people show up too but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing more Moose Jaw guys there, the ones I've met seem to be alright, other than Don of course Very Happy.

I'll talk to my brother, he may be in town that weekend and maybe he'll be interested.

I thought about taking brets too but I tested out my list on saturday against my brother's orcs and goblins and got completely smashed. Most of it was bad luck on my part, my level 4 prophetess miscast on her first spell which happened to be throne of vines, then rolled a 1 (throne of vines lets you ignore miscasts on a 2+) and then the miscast destoyed most of the grail knight unit she was in and then she got removed as a casualty. Awesome first turn! After that it was all downhill as my army had no answer for fanatics and mangler squigs and his goblin spear chukkas were unusually accurate. It maybe wasn't a good indication of what would happen in the tournament but after that result I couldn't bring myself to take them. It also helped that after that I played another game with him with my wood elves and played the blood or glory scenario and I won! I'm 2 and 0 with my wood elves in that scenario which is really crazy because I just assumed that I would pretty much automatically lose if that ever came up.

Here's a question though, does magic resistance give you a ward save vs miscast damage? That would have saved my grail knights in the first game but I couldn't find anything. I'm assuming it doesn't but it would be nice!

Hm, I don't think so as it states damage from spells -- which I assume would mean directly and not the result of a spell gone awry. If it did count that would make magic resistance at least kinda good.

Q: Is damage caused by a miscast counted as a spell? Can a model
with Magic Resistance add it to its ward save against it? Is any
damage caused counted as being caused by the Wizard? (p34)
A: No to all questions.

Awesome, thanks Eric. I kinda thought that but I was hoping someone would have heard otherwise. Oh well, I guess that's the danger of putting your big spellcaster in the middle of your best combat unit.

I'll come try out some fantasy, just someone remind me when I'm supposed to fire bolters and I'll be all set.

I'll be playing Warriors of Chaos, is there any restrictions on what I can take? I have a khorne only (with the exception of a level 2 sorcerer of tzeentch so I get to throw a few magic dice) army built around a theme, its super weak so I doubt it breaks any comp rules or has anything too beardy.

comp restrictions
unit size max 50models or 500pts....whichever is reached first excluding characters
no duplicate monster slots (anything listed as Mo or Un) unless used as a character mount.
900pts in characters max
no more than 5 missle/artillery units
powerscrolls prohibited.

scenarios are battleline, blood and glory, meeting engagement

take note of the blood and glory scenario and make sure your army has at least 2 banners. Other than that, look forward to meeting you!

Thanks Carson for putting on a great event! I had a great time and I'm already looking forward to the next one!

There was talk about getting rid of the sportsmanship component of the score since everyone got at least 4/5 pretty much every game. I think that if you have sportsmanship scores you have to do it differently. I've always liked when you make people rank their 3 opponents with a 1, 2 or 3. I think if you made it so that you had to give each of your opponents a score out of 5 but couldn't repeat scores it would force people to really think about the sportsmanship scores and it would make the sportsmanship component something that actually mattered. It would also give the players some leeway in case they had 3 opponents who were pretty close they could give them 3, 4 & 5 but if they had a really bad experience they could give them a 0 or 1.

Just a thought, either way I enjoyed the day and had 3 great games. Congrats on the win Don, you're lucky you didn't have to face me Laughing !

I have seen tournament packages online where, at the end of the event, players rate their opponents 1,2,3, (4,5,6,etc. depending on the number of games played), and the number of picks are worth points.

For example (in a 3 game tournament):
If one opponent chooses you as their #1 game, you get 1 point;
If two opponents choose you as their #1 game, you get 3 points;
If three opponents choose you as their #1 game, you get 5 points.

If one opponent chooses you as their #2 game, you get 0 points;
If two opponents choose you as their #2 game, you get 1 point;
If three opponents choose you as their #2 game, you get 2 points.

That will be sure to generate a spread, and I think it's more valuable.
