I'm going to say Bretonnians but I might change my mind when I see the comp rules.

Awesome! I'm in too. Not sure yet which army I'll bring across the seas but it'll be either WoC or O&G. Smile

Ok guys, just recieved an email from darren at the den. It seems when he gave me the go ahead for the 15th he "forgot" that a 40k tournament was already boked for that day.

I suggested he should kick out those kids that play 40k and let the big boys play, but he wasn't buying.

I rebooked for the following Sat. Hopefully that still works for everyone.

see the top post for details

I'm in for OnG. Why no power scrolls? Are they really bad assed in 8th?

The power scroll is the one that causes all doubles to be miscasts/irresistable force right? That makes sense to ban those as they don't cause anything but trouble.

I'll either bring Bretonnians or Wood Elves. I'm not sure how many points I spent on characters in my Bretonnian list but I know my wood elves conform to those comp rules.

No, I really don't know much about them in 8th. They weren't all that popular in 7th and I was just wondering about the gear shift.

You know what? I'm not gonna come. Even though I'm number 1 on the Master's list and have (easy) money on the line.

I'm not even going to offer suggestions to fix those comp rules because people take such issue when I do that, so I'm just going to vote with my feet.

Don, take your time with the Daemons, looks like this tournament isn't a deadline after all.

Yeah I'm wondering a little about the comp rules as well.

What was the exact reason to limit characters to 700 pts? It seems like that would put some races at a serious disadvantage, my vamps being one of those races.

Not trying to step on anyones toes just wondering what the thoughts are exactly, as the vampire and lizardmen lists I was thinking of playing both wont work Sad

700 points cap on characters does seem a little harsh. Especially with a 2500 point tournament. I'm not sure how big armies people have around there but I could see rounding up 1800 points of non-characters being a bit of a problem. Also I'm not sure what it fixes since (at least from my experiences) characters aren't the most broken thing in 8th, apart from a couple specific ones. 700 points is really low*, and quite funny in a way that it also increases the lord allowance from 625 (25%). I'd suggest upping it to 1000 points so that you can have 500pts heroes and 500pts lords max. That restricts some of the "big bad things" (tooled up KoS, Bloodthirster, the dream-slann etc.) but still allows most balanced army builds.

Now, I don't want to seem rude or anything, if these are the rules I'll accept them and come anyways. But if there is a possibility to still affect the comp, my vote is for more character points. Smile

*For example, if I took O&G and wanted to play with a wyvern war boss (hardly a broken thing in 8th), it would be very hard for me to fit in both a BSB and a shaman with decent gear. Another example would be TK, which are already suffering and really need their characters to be able to compete.

'Squiggedit: I also hope steam tanks are included in the "no double monster slots" restriction...

I don't think it really hurts anything. Carson isn't changing the maximum lord or hero values to 700, he is just adding the stipulation that you can't spend more than 700 points on characters overall. It basically forces you to make some choices as to what you want since like you said, you can't have it all. In my wood elf army for example I'm going to have to choose whether I want a combat lord and a level 4 wizard or if I want to downgrade one and add a bsb as well. Not that big a deal actually. If you don't max out on the magical items or mounts you should be able to fit pretty much whatever you want anyway. Besides, Warhammer is always more fun when you have more models on the table and 1800 points worth of throops shouldn't be too much of a stretch for most of us. It is basically just forcing us to take a little bit of extra time and care when we create our lists. If you can't fit in your uber-wizard then take a bit extra shooting to balance it out. If you are forced to scrap your combat lord of doom then add a unit of heavy-hitters to make up for it.

In the end its all about having fun and playing the game. I personally don't care about the prizes, I just enjoy playing the game with what I think are the best group of Warhammer players around.

I agree. Set the boundaries and i will work within them, makes it a bit of a challenge. I'm there to have a good time first, prizes second and winning at all costs doesn't even place.

Man I didn't realize people were playing with that high of points spent on characters now. Crutches and all that.

I'll up the characters points allowance to 850.
