Here is the first WIP of the Avatar of Khaine.  Most parts of the model are just the basecoats of gold and silver, maybe with some random highlights and shadows thrown in.  Moving forward I'm going to work in small areas adding shadows and highlights.  Right now the only "finished" area is the right shoulder (second picture).  I'm going to try to get that kind of transition everywhere.  I also did some extra work on the chest and the helmet/head.  I may go back and try to make those runes glow but I haven't decided yet.  Third picture is just an overall picture so you can see the model in all its glory.

Please be harsh. I won't learn otherwise.

Pretty good, I'd like to see it in the flesh. My personal opinion is all metals can do with a shot of colour glazed in.

First overall crit would be to apply your shading in multiple thinner passes. That's the easiest way to control your transition from light to dark I think.

This looks really good, but I would paint the silver parts of the legs black like the upper body - kinda looks like he's wearing metal pants. Keeping the arms silver would look like arm guards, so that could work. I keep my golds (and painting, lol) super simple - the faster the better. I do have a few recipes that I keep in the top drawer when I have to paint 40 of something.

I'm not sure painting like Scott for table figs is the most efficient idea, although the results are usually fantastic. We had a painting night at Carson's, and Scott spent the whole evening painting an Orcs ass brown. A whole evening. On an ass. Not for me. I put 3 different colour washes on 4 Fiends and 10 Mounted Daemonettes, and still had time to make fun of his hairdryer. Now THAT'S efficiency! Wink

Made some more slow progress on this guy.  I'm definitely not used to spending so much time on one mini, it's a bit frustrating that I'm not done yet.  Looking at this picture it looks really rough.  I suppose it should, blown up 2x the actual size.  In the hand it looks smoother I think.  The forearm of the sword arm needs some work to get the transitions smoother for sure though. The leg on the other side needs some work too, that was one of the last things I did last night and I think I was getting impatient.

To help smooth things remember to go back and forth over the metals with glazes of a thinned GW wash or some paint. It helps immensely. I mean rather than just put downa base coat and add a bunch of wash as a shade and work up to the brightest highlight remember you can go back and forth. Do a middle tone, shade it down. Do the middle tone again, then go a little lighter. Smooth that out with some glazing, maybe use your darkest shade in the shadows some more. Go lighter, glaze it down etc. Back and forth baby!

Thanks guys, I'm starting to stall a bit on this guy but I don't want to rush it to finish just for the sake of finishing. I might crank out a less ambitious project in the next few days just for the sake of the contest if that is within the rules. If not I can probably get this guy to a point where I could say he was finished.

Re: Nathan's Models

I've been building, converting and assembling the beginnings of an empire army this month. I'll post pictures once I'm a little further in the game but I figured I'd make an introductory post here about it before I start posting pictures. It is a Middenheim themed list which means lots of beards, fur and wolves. Eventually, if GW manages to keep up with the Made to Order program and give the people what they want I'll have a chance to buy a unit of Teutogen guard to round out the army, fingers crossed.

I've been making decent progress and have a unit and a half of knights, 2 units of pistoliers, 7 demigriffon knights and a smattering of characters assembled. I'm working on 2 units of handgunners and a cannon. I need a set of chaos knight legs to finish off my knight commander model so if anyone has some of those that they'd like to sell to me I'd appreciate it. I'm also going to need 6 more empire knights, preferrably built as white wolf knights but I can't be picky, I'll take what I can get. Once I have those finished off I'll have the models I need for my army. Painting is going to be a long slog but I think this will be a cool-looking army when it is done.

I've got everything that I own for Empire assembled so I took a break for a bit and gave the dwarfs some love. I greenstuffed 23 bases for my new unit of longbeards. I was going to do 20 more for my rangers but I ran out of greenstuff. I'll buy some more and get those done too, maybe this weekend but probably next week. The bases are the hard part, after that it's just paint and dwarfs don't take long to paint. Armour, beard, cheeks and nose and done!

There's a WIP hold guardian. Needs to be dwarfified a bit more and the pilot needs some greenstuffing but it's good enough that I'll proceed with the unit.

That is pretty cool. What 3d print is that from?

Not a 3D print.  It's a kitbash using an old dwarf torso and head, a black orc musician's right hand and the rest is the ork meganobz kit.

I have enough parts to make 2 more for a unit of 3.  Do I need more than that Andre?

Edit: oh ya, the shoulder pads are a thin slice of copper pipe cut in half.

Wow rude... Like i don't even own dwarves and I'm getting thrown under the table Wink and pfft your dwarves were/are soooo harder than mine. i brought the goofyness. No great weapons, Hammers/Kings Guard, handguns or warmachines. Just rangers, slayers and a lone gyro copter lol haha. I purposely built my Dwarves away from the meta game, definitely hurts my feelings that you think that Sad

and ONLY ONE ini 10 dwarf on my table Wink haha
