The grass/moss is sand. Basecoat of dark green, drybrush of light green. All the bases of my Bretonnians have the 3-color cobblestones, I feel like I should put the final highlight on the display board to match but maybe by being lazy and not doing it the minis themselves will stand out more? Like I said, I'll finish everything else and then see if it needs to be done. This is going to be my painting challenge entry for September, I figure 4 square feet worth of display board and a castle gate should be enough to equal 10 infantry models.

Nathan, that looks great and obviously fits the army it was designed for. Well done! Super fast too!

So, here's proof all of our excuses don't mean crap. Get painting lads!

Here's a small crest I got my buddy to 3-D print for me, I'm going to paint it up and put it on the display box.  I think I'll magnetize it so that I can swap it out, I'll try to make one for each of my armies eventually.

I also painted one of the towers, the other one should be done by Wednesday evening (unless I get distracted by painting this crest) and then it's just the gate house to go. I painted the tower mostly grey stone but I did do a few bricks to match the base and in those I used all 3 colors. That convinced me that I'm going to need to put that final highlight on the base cobblestones. It makes them look so much better.

I painted the other tower tonight but I messed it up and it's a lot lighter than the other one. I'm going to hit it with some black washes to hopefully bring it down to match the other a bit more. I also painted the crest and base coated the gate section. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some paint on that.

I don't know, haven't had much luck in that department in previous tournaments. We'll see what happens I guess.

I painted the gatehouse and repainted the tower that was too light last night. They are now attached to the board. Once the glue dries and I get some time I'm going to fill all the gaps and repaint those areas. Then it is just a matter of painting the final details. I should be able to finish before the end of the month.

In other news, a 3D printer is currently in a truck headed in my direction. I'm looking forward to learning how to work it. It is fairly small, 4.7"x4.7"x4.7" print volume so I won't be printing anything massive but I should be able to print FOW buildings, counters, and other things. Once I'm up and running let me know if you need anything printed.

It looks better in person. I have thought of making a similar type board but more like a dwarven hold. Not sure what to use for materials? Mine would obviously be more stoney

I've got the rest of that Warhammer fortress if you want, once I get the printer running I could make some dwarf pillars and statues and stuff. I'm going to eventually make a board for my dwarfs as well so maybe we can use similar ideas and materials.

Nope, just foam insulation. I used a pencil to score the cobblestone pattern directly into the foam. The hills are smoothed out using paper clay, an air drying craft clay bought at Michaels. The grass/moss texture is just sand glued to the foam. I added a few bits from the basing kit to add visual interest.

Last night I filled in the gaps and added some more sand. Tonight I'll try to paint it and then I'll be totally done (other than building the box that it will fit into).

Found this site, has some decent minis and terrain. Their casting/sculpting looks a little rough so the fine details aren't necessarily there but I kinda like what they've got going on.

Might use some of those dwarf statues and/or pillars for when I make a dwarf board.

There's a Chaos Lord on six legged beast that I always wondered who made. It's these guys - they have some pretty cool stuff. I can appreciate the organic sculpted look some of it has.
