I think "Look out sir" does quite a bit to negate cannon sniping. I mean you have a 1/6 chance that the cannon will misfire, then a 5/6 chance that your character isn't hit which is pretty good. Even if you do roll a 1 you have a 1/6 chance that the cannon won't wound and if it does you still have a 2/6 chance that your lord only takes 1 or 2 wounds which means he isn't killed and the cannon ball stops. Already thats only an 8% chance that your lord will take 3 or more wounds. Then your lord probably has a ward save which is usually going to be at least 4+ so that cuts it down to 4%. If you don't get a look out sir roll it's 46% and the ward save will cut that to 23%.

That and the fact that there are only 2/15 armies that have cannons means that it doesn't even come up that often. But for those armies that have them, why not? Think of it this way, if you have a cannon and you are aiming it at a unit with a character in it wouldn't you aim at the character? I think it would be stupid not to.

That said, I'm pretty sure they looked down on it in real life too.

hey thanks Geoff, I would imagine a few of us will switch up to even out the sides.

Nathan you made me laugh with your last sentence.....nothing like argueing against yourself. But yeah, leaders that were out running around on thier own were often targeted by enemy batterys, such as Wellington at Waterloo who had most of his support staff killed from cannon fire. However, cannon fire could never pick out a "leader" in a massed unit, it just wasn't possible at the ranges that batterys fired at. ......And yes this is fantasy but it just seems unrealistic and "unheroic" to shoot a character out of a unit.

We will just leave that for the very noble and heroic Dwarf gun lines. Smile

So... any new information on this? 7 people signed up for good, 4 for evil and 2 that said they can swing either way. I know its pretty early to be planning anything specific but these days it takes me weeks to get any kind of progress painting-wise so I'd like to start putting together my forces and get started on anything that needs painting. Can whoever is going to be the captain of the good forces PM me with some info?

Since I'm not in the league I've been looking forward to this since it was announced and I can't wait to get my Warhammer on again! By then my son will be 6 months old so I shouldn't be quite as busy at home and I'll be able to get back into the swing of things.

Ok, so Oct.30 is confirmed....be at the den for opening which is 10:30.

Right now we have 7 players per side which are.....

Good Alliance

Nathan R.
Andre
Dom
Zack
Jeremy
Joe
Darren

Evil Alliance

Paul
Wade
Nathan A
Don
Bob
Geoff
Carson

There is still room for players to sign up but I'd like to limit the players to 10 per side.

What I want to have happen now is for the players in each alliance to vote for alliance overall general. Each overall general or "marshal" will be tasked with doleing out or keeping the set units presented by Bob and myself, overall co-ordination of tactics and strategy, etc. ect. Bob and myself are not elegible for the vote as we will have to keep it organizes and running smoothly and for rules disputes and such.

Each player will bring a 1500pts army following all the rulebook guidelines. The preset units are to be pooled from our clubs resources of models. Example.....I can provide Empire models for the good alliance.

Also.....as we are show casing the game as well as playing for fun and masters points lets try to bring as many painted figs to this as possible.

As to the board set-up, further rules, victory conditions etc.......you'll find out when you get to the den!!!!.......but just keep in mind when your picking your forces.....get together, discuss what you need......The Evil Alliance will be attacking a ruined fortress defended by the Good Alliance. ******4 of the Good Alliance players will have to enter the game turn 1 as a relieving force, leaving 3 to defend the ruins.....and you'll WANT to defend the ruins.

Sounds Unclear....perfect. Fog of war baby!!!!

So once each marshal is picked, we'll set up a seperate thread for each side to discuss army lists and tactics.

Vote away...........here

I vote for Dominique to be marshal of the good alliance, he's the only one of us bringing empire I think. If anyone needs painted bretonnians dwarfs or wood elves I've got a bunch, I will be bringing some dwarfs but I've got probably 3000 or so more points worth so there should be enough to make another army if someone wants to.

I am fine with Dom being genaeral as I know he has really rifled through the new rule book and if a guy can make empire work and crush as he does why not. The Dwarfs have not forgotten their oath to protect and fight with the armies of men!

You aren't bringing bretonnians Darren? Maybe I should be bringing them then, I think a column of knights would be perfect for a relief force.

Are the named units and characters taken out of somebody's point allowance or are they just extra?

Hey Wade, are guys sticking around or are you camping with the Ladies?

Hey Carson, since I'm bringing 50 Bloodletters and the general on Jugger does that come out of my 1500 point army list? Or is that a unit, over and above my list?

Oh, by the way...the preset units are free. Uhhh...I didn't realize I nominated the guy for general who hasn't read a post in this thread. Can I reconsider?

*joke*

I'm pretty sure we'll just be staying in town this time. Too cold to camp in November.
