Here is the Hydra all put together and GS's up. Nice big base to place some scenery odds and bits on. Really a bitch of a model to put together!

I'm open to suggestions for a color scheme.

I like the cold-ones color scheme too, the hydra doesn't have as many scales as they do so I'm not sure how those colors would look though. I'd try to put your green and purple color scheme on it somehow.

small update with some army changes. I'm dropping the bsb death hag for a master bsb. The death hag will now accompany a cauldron of blood which I'm really excited about using. I've yet to try out the new changes to my planned army but will soon. The white on the death hags blades are to represent the witches poisons.

here goes

Planned list: magic items absent......but no pendant Very Happy

dreadlord on foot
master bsb on foot
death hag with cauldron
3x 18 corsairs
18 witch elves
6 darkriders with repeaters and spears
bolt thrower
hydra
12 repeater crossbowmen
a lurking assassin somewhere in the mix

everything is in multiples of 6..........thier so evil Evil or Very Mad

to finish this 2000pt force I need to paint:
1 block of corsairs
the witch elves
hydra
cauldron

after that I'd like to expand it with a supreme sorceress riding a manticore, more crossbowmen, more darkriders, and then on to some more coldones.

A small update with planned scheme for the witches and the completed beastmasters for the hydra.
Witches might not be the best choice in a Darkelven army but how can you not like em!

You might have noticed that the skin tone on these minis has changed. I havn't been satisfied with the blueish skin tone and so have opted for a decayed flesh look instead. Luckily the rest of my finished figs have minimal skin and so chnging them around should only take an hour or so.

I like the pale look, and it's official; everyone in the world makes better bases than I do. Good job, Carson.

Thanks guys.
played a few games with the force over the weekend and I'm loving the all infantry darkelves....with hydra!
I did'nt have the cauldron put together to go with my above list so I added in a master mounted on a dark pegasus armed with a lance and the "LifeTaker" crossbow........its definitely a keeper!
the model I used coming up quick in a WIP shot.

Carson, you were right about models looking better in real life. Guys, trust me, that Hydra looks great. I wanted to punch Carson in the part of the brain that makes you forget how to make cool bases. Awesome model and I have a bunch of Beasts chariots and units of Minotaurs that would agree.

I know he loves the "lifetaker" because everytime he used it, he would call it by name and describe what it does. It was charming at first, but then it just kept taking lives... Razz

Here is the fig that brings it to you all, just have to add the "lifeTaker" and paint the dead head.

Now that I have the initial 2000pt list painted its time to add some more units.

First up is a mockup of a cauldron of blood. I didn't want the static pose but wanted one that looked like it could move....as they now can.

Good, bad, what needs to be added?

Are those empire flagellants carrying the cauldron? I like the idea but I think you'll need more to make it believable. I'd put 4 down each side and try to find some that are bent over at the waist and put them underneath as well. I don't know if such models exist but I think it would look cool. Your other option is to put wheels on and have some cold ones pulling it.

Personally, I'd go with a combination of what natahn suggested and what you're doing. I'd have it on wheels with the flagellant slaves pulling it. As it is now you need more dudes. 4 guys ain't gonna hold that up man! Keep it up!

So in the end I couldn't make the slaves work on the cauldron so Ive gone back to a "hillside shrine" type cauldron. I'll post a pic once I start painting it up.

In the meantime here is the start of my supreme sorceress's mount. Lots of work yet to be done......new tail, wings, and removal of the horrible neck spines. The Sorceress will be a conversion of the old static dark elf sorcerer holging the skull staff.
