Looking good!

I think you might like just having an assasin in the painted model mix for every now and again, even if you don't use it a whole pile!

Start for Oct.

Post  Carson on Sat Oct 11, 2008 1:16 pm

The first of 10 darkriders.....thinking of also making a unit of "medium" Cav....darkriders with shields 4+save and full command. Backed up with a hero on dark steed they could be quite deadly.

If you havn't already guessed it, all core units in the army will be corsair or corsair conversion models.
enjoy!

Beautiful freehand, well done. Thin your paint! The chunkyness on the banner can be avoided by thinning your paint slightly and doing 3-5 coats of the color. They dry real fast so you can still do it in one session.

The freehand is tops, and far better then I could do. Well done, this unit looks like a winner!

I kind of like the effect that the thick paint has, it looks like it was hand painted by some master dark elf painter. The color contrasts quite dramatically with the army and I can't decide if that is a good thing or not. I do like the banner itself though!

I like the banner design and color selection. I enjoy that the banner looks like so much more than just another piece of equipment for the unit and more of a treasured heirloom kind of thingy.

Carson, that's pretty cool. It's that kinda' stuff that separates the men from the boys!

Since I never do that, I guess I'm still a boy...

Those are some very nice dark elves there carson. I bought the new cold ones when they came out and there still sitting in limbow with the unit of 20 spearmen I have yet to add to my dark elves. Wish I could paint as well as all you lads. Must be hard picking best painted in your neck of the woods.

I'm still not 100% happy with the actual Coldone color scheme. I wanted to go with a "colder" look as opposed to the jungle feel that GW uses. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Well... maybe start off by taking a freakin' pic in focus so I get about smashing you're obvious foolish color choices!

I'm no color theory guy but I think the green is a warm color and blue a cold one. Stay away from any red/brown as that will warm up the color cheme and give it the jungle roots you don't want.

Maybe a Grey into blue with some grey picked out over top of the base for highlights? You could also try a very thin wash of the citadel wash (Maybe 5:1) a layer at a time an see if that knocks the whole piece colder.

Green is usually a warm color, but the green that you have used on the armour looks very cold. I think the white does acheive the "coldness" that you are looking for but it doesn't really give them much character either. I'd go with Scott's suggestion and splash a bit of blue in there, maybe bluish (very faint blue, mostly white or grey) on the inside of their mouths and/or the non-scaled skin areas?

It is a pretty subtle change (I had to open both pictures and put them side by side to really see the difference) but I like it better this way. It was already a superb paint job but I think it looks a bit more "finished" now.

Very nice. Man, I love the snow theme. If I was 2% more insane I would re-do my Beastmen army in darker colors and in a snow theme. Maybe it's a Canadian thing.

Love the blue/white on the Coldone.

Finished up the Master/DreadLord.....nearly done another 5 Coldone Knights. Just a few days left!

I finally settled on a redish flesh tone for the coldones....as I've seen alot of blue coldones on the net...wanted to be unique hopefully.
Next up is to finish the last coldones to make a unit of 12 and then on to the hag queen bsb. I'm using the female dreadlord for this model....with a bit of cutting and GS.
