Ok, quick update

After reading 8th edition were gonna bump the tournament up to 2500 pts and try it out. Not sure what will become the new standard pts level for games but will give this a go at the tournament and see how it feels.

Having read the WD article on army building 2500 sounds like areasonable standard. Keep in mind we want new people to take up the game, considering that this is not a chaep hobby and people rarely buy a 2500pt army off the start but build incrementally. I for one would be more that happy to play smaller games, bring them into the fold and watch them grow (kinda like a tree before you cut it down for fire wood)

I may be partially responsible for he increase in the point amount. The difference in points would average one unit for most armies. OR, 3 units that are slightly larger -- kind of how 8th intends.

My 2 pennies.

I can just barely still meet the 25% core with the units I have. It just means splitting a unit of 10 glade guard into 2 units of 5 scouts. I'm having a heck of a time picking characters though. At 2500 points I could fit in a treeman ancient and a level 4 wizard!

I have an idea that might address newer players and the point limit. if it is even possible to do in a tournament scenario. A couple of newer players who possibly haven't been collecting for years before they play might be able to take advantage of the allied armies rules that can now be found in the 8th Ed rulebook to make a tournament army. Again I`m not sure if this would even be possible to do in a tournament situation.

allies won't work in a tournament setting. Really the only difference I've seen as we jumped from 2000 to 2200 were larger units. I believe the jump to 2500 will see either an extra character or again larger units......all of which are in the spirit of 8th.

On another note, the rules for 8th edition are awesome. I believe the game is going to really hit its prime with this version. Big blocks of troops, a very balanced magic system and a fresh clean rules system.

What scenarios are we going to be playing for the tournament? If the breakpoint one is going to be in there then I'm going to have to switch to dwarfs. The only unit that I have that I can give standards to is glade guard and we all know how well that would work.

I think we should use all of the scenarios. I plan on using the D6 method to determine scenarios as often as my opponent will agree.

Except that in a tournament format everyone should be playing the same scenarios I think. If we were playing a 6 round tournament then I'd be all for playing one of each but we are only playing 3 rounds so I'm just wondering which 3 its going to be.

My wood elf army at max with the models that I own could have 4 standards and 3 of those would be on units of 10 unarmoured glade guard. I might as well just shake my opponent's hand if we rolled that scenario and go for a beer instead.

Oh geeze. right.

I forgot which thread I was posting in for a minute there.

Still, I think that one is a great scenario, and I would love to have it in a tournament. It really forces players to take armies that look like armies.

I was planning on picking 3 scenarios from the book before hand, guess it can't hurt to post em here first......

let me see.......

Anyone care to post up thier army list for the tournament? I'm really curious what people come up with for 8th edition armies.

Is there a guideline for army comp yet, because I'd be happy to post my list if I knew it wasn't a 0.

I think scenarios should be kept hidden to make the armies made for balance, than tailor made for the scenarios.

I'm going with a wood elf army that is sure to lose. I won't post any magic items or kindreds (you'll have to guess):

Characters:
Highborn on Great Stag
Level 2 spellsinger
2 nobles

Core:
1 unit of 12 glade guard with a musician
2 units of 10 glade guard with champions and musicians
2 units of 8 dryads with champions

Special:
13 wardancers with a champion
5 wild riders with full command
3 treekin

Rare:
Treeman
5 Waywatchers
1 Giant Eagle

I've got nothing that can break ranks and nothing that will be steadfast. I can pump out lots of attacks but I won't be able to stay in combat for long since I have no armour and will die quite quickly. My magic phase will be decent but not really powerful and my shooting is strong but will quickly get whittled down by other shooting. I do have a few dirty tricks up my sleeve and secretly I have high hopes but I'm keeping my expectations low.

HAHA thats kinda mean, how wide would you put the 40 block, i was thinking the same thing and making them 7 wide insead of 5. with the volly fire it will only give you one more shot but hey 29 is better than 28.

My list still needs some work but it so far has
tyrant, slaughter master, bruiser(BSB)
3 units of 6 bulls with full comand
havent decided on the size of the irongut unit
some bleachers
posibly a giant in there

If I play Daemons:

Keeper of Secrets - lvl 2
Herald of Khorne - BSB
Herald of Slaanesh - lvl1

35 Bloodletters - fc
17Daemonettes - fc

6 Flesh hounds
6 screamers
6 Flamers
6 Fiends (2X3, curious how this would work) 21 armour piercing attacks.

I'm tempted to make an 8 strong unit of Bloodcrushers with 2 Jugger Heralds -- 985 points. I know, but it WOULD look cool and would hit like a Freight train full of shit with no brakes!!!

If I play High Elves:

Prince
mage - lvl 2
mage - lvl 2
Noble - BSB

23 Spearmen - fc
27 Lothern seaguard - fc

29 Phoenix Guard - fc
21 White Lions - fc
6 dragon Princes - fc

Great Eagle
Great Eagle
Great Eagle
Great Eagle
