Carson's Army Challenge DarkElf Blog

Post  Carson on Thu Jul 31, 2008 10:53 pm

I havn't been this excited for a new army book or project for quite some time. I would have to say that it ranks up with the O&G book for best army design.....its wicked good!
I plan on building up a force to around 3500pts give or take. As always the army will be based around a solid group of core units......warriors and repeater crossbowmen. I'm really pleased with the new coldones and will definitely be fielding a nice killy unit of them. The new Deathhad character looks too cool not to include, even if she is a bit fragile. Anyway....plans plans.
This weekend I'll try to post the first completed model. I'm picturing a dark green for armour with the traditional purple for cloth.

Can't wait to see everyones porjects for the army challenge.

I love it! Good color choice and execution. Are you telling me you painted that yesterday? Don't lie now...

That is the best color scheme I've seen for a dark elf army! I can't wait to see the rank and file troops in that green and purple. combined with the deathly pale face it just looks so evil! Nicely done.

And the Ravening Hordes Army challenge is officially on!

Corsair Command...these guys took some time. What do you think of the Sea Dragon Cloak?

Changed the weapon options on my Dreadlord to make WYSIWIG for my planned wePON OPTIONS.

I love the cloak.

Honestly though I am really not sure about purple and green as army colours though... I mean they are painted well, it just seems a little hellish on the eyes...

Love the sea dragon cloak. Also I do like the purple and green. I don't see it as an assault on the eyes at all. Clashing colors make for an eye catching army at least... if you make a few people throw up from their headaches at least you know they were paying attention!

Don't change it at all, I dig it.

Looks just fine to me. I swear to God, though that you and Scott never sleep. Or do you guys just go to bed with a brush and fig in your hand? Very Happy

Tried it, wife didn't like it. Actually its amazing what you can get done when you force yourself to paint at least 20-30 min. everyday.

Is that a jab at my lack of productivity? Very Happy Seriously though, my basement flooded and we've been dealing with that. The figs were put on a very high shelf and haven't been touched since. I've made it a personal goal to paint 200 points in a week when things "dry up".

Here is a test model for my darkriders. Really happy with this. The Corsair sprues are excellent.

I live out at the lake and we have cistern for water. Where we live just had city water installed, so the roads and front yards have been all dug up. When they installed the water system in our cistern, they never installed the float properly, so it wouldn't stop filling the cistern with water when it was full. Rubber boots didn't help as the water was higher than that.... Sad

Alright, September is here, whats next? For this month I plan to paint up a Reaper bolt thrower plus some Corsairs to flesh out to 200pts. I was toying with the idea of hitting a hydra next but decided to leave that for a month when I'm rushed for time. October sounds good as we have OctoCon and a mega battle lined up.

I'm thinking of chopping the "flag" portion of the Corsair standard off and just leaving the pole.. What does everyone think? Or Should I leave it but paint up some evil type image.

You want your standard to just be a lame pole?

You're better than that baby.....

How come you are wanting to get rid of/change the flag? I like the one that you have! I think if you do cut off the flag you will have to shorten the pole otherwise it will look strange. I also think that the simple white on black design you have painted on the flag is great because it puts the emphasis on the models. If you painted up a really detailed flag I think it would look cluttered when combined with all the detail in the models. Plus, I can't see Dark elves spending enough time weaving tapestries to make a really detailed flag. That is something a fancy-pants High Elf would do! Thats my opinion, take it or leave it!

I think you should challenge yourself to paint a suitably 'squiddy' image on the flag. Without the fabric it will simply be a totem. I disagree with Nathan on the point that the elves would indeed take the time craft something they can be proud of.

The beginning of my September work. Should I apply the green to the reaper bolt thrower as well?

Looking good, I think you should put green and purple on there somewhere. It could be really subtle, like the fletching on the bolts (if there is any) or the bolt tips.
