Swamp Bases

I've never done any kind of complicated basing before and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can make a swampy looking base for my lizardmen.

glues down sand/gravel mix onto half the base, place a thick layer of pva on the other half. Prime when dry, paint the pva with green or blue inks.
