2500 points of orky goodness

Post  3s for luck on Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:24 pm

So here's the list I'm working on guys, and after playing Nathans Dwarfs I have to say that I've developed a taste for bolt throwers (even if I only managed to hit two unfortunate rats, and a dragon too damn lucky for his own good).

Savage Orc Warboss 125p
Martog's best basha 15p +1ws, +1S, +1I
Enchanted Shield 15p +5 AS
Warboss Umm's best boss 'at 30p +5 WS
Warboss Imbad's Iron Gnashas 30p Killing blow
Light Armour 3p
218p

x8 Spear Chukka's w/ orc bullies
320p (40pe)

x2 Giants
410p (205pe)

23 Savage orc big 'uns w/ add. choppas and full command in 4 ranks of 6
352 (14ppm)

x2 25 Orc boys w/ add. choppas and full command in 5 ranks of 5
410p (205pe (7ppm))

x5 6 wolf riders w/ shorts bows, spears, and musicians
(460(116pe(14ppm))

x2 10 wolf riders w/ spears, shields and full command
340p (170pe(14ppm))

Total 2500p

I'm thinking twice about the giants, but I figure they'll do a good job of absorbing fire. My infantry can hopefully make it into combat relatively intact while my bolt throwers provide cover. Meanwhile they'll be escorted by two or three units of wolf riders with bows who can distract frenzied troops, and just be annoying in general. The others will make it around to enemy artillery, if any, and my two units of ten will charge the enemies flank or rear if I don't need them elsewhere.
So this army is fairly dependent on shooting, but that shouldn't be a problem unless a certain someone decides to field a storm banner. Magic is also going to be a problem with only two dispel dice, and lets not forget animosity. I hate that rule, but black orcs are too expensive for my tastes.

Also if your wondering why my 5 small units of wolf riders have spears... I really have no idea. I had points to spare, and it'll probably be good for a laugh or too in the long run.

8 bolt throwers is a bit excessive and you will probably run out of targets pretty quickly with all those wolf riders getting into combat quickly. I'd tone it down to 4 at the most, that way you free up the special slots to take some of the more interesting units in the army.

Ya i have to agree with nathan, the 8 bolt throwers will most likley run out of targets way to quick, plus they have to have LOS to your foes so with all thosse crazy animosity orcs running around you never know just what to expect. now i can't say for sure as i dont play O&G but i dont think that a big unit of wolf riders is worth it at all, they are fast cav for a reason after all !! and are both Martog's best basha and Warboss Imbad's Iron Gnashas magic weapons? a chracter is only allowed 1 magic weapon unless stated somewhere that they can be used in conjunction.

and IMO having 2 giants is a must, just cause there cool and i think they fit so well with O&G, all though in all reality 1 is probably more than good.

Wolf Riders lose the fast cav special rule when they're equipped with shields (which is why I prefer them over spider riders), and the iron Gnashas are an enchanted item. You're probably right about the spear chukkas though, and perhaps I can tone down the wolf riders a bit as well; this would leave enough points and special options for some boar riders, or maybe some black orcs.
