Carson vs Warriors of Chaos

Post  Carson on Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:18 pm

So I thought I would plot the course of my new project here now that the Darkelves have hit 2000pts of painted glory.
First up I'll post the various units just assembled with movement trays. I have yet to build another unit of 5 marauder horse and two units of 15 marauders with GreatWeapons.

Medium Cav Marauders with an exalted Bsb on Demonsteed

Fast Cav Marauders with spears

Chosen with Halberds and shields

Knights

Warriors with Sorcerer Lord...missing the champion though

first of the marauders with GreatWeapons

I have been toying with the WoC as well these days. What did you use for the marauder great weapons? I was thinking about that at one point but wasn't sure where to get the GW sprue? Looks great and looking forward to your painting of these bad boys.

Sorry, I missed this one. The Gw's are simply flails with the flail removed and an axe head glued on.

Now that I have the other projects I've been working on mostly finished up I can start hammering out my WOC.
Here are the first 5 marauders.

Very cool looking models Carson, I especially like the standard bearer. Very Chaosy. Are you going to have them all done by the time of the tournament?

Come on! You can do it, I just painted my second Grail knight, 2 down 3 to go, then 15 archers and a wizard.

Carson, what did you use for colours? I never did really come up with something I liked so the Warriors are in limbo.

I don't think it's undersized. I like it.

I originally wanted to use the old empire war wagon for the shrine. Might still do that if I can find another one.

The armour is base coat od graveyard earth, liberal wash of devlan mud, highlights of kommando khaki, bleached bone, light light wash of devlan mud, white on high points.

I would add a sorcerer like fig to it, and maybe another warrior in a fighting position.

This army is going to look awesome. Now I have to think of some other colour scheme! I was even thinking white/black in the Malal colours of old, old editions. Although I was going to do desert bases,
I've always liked the Slaanesh, Tzeentch fluff so I think that I may just have to run Purple and Blues.
- Would like a picture of the warriors.
- Lord on mount looks very good!
- Marauders turned out well. Tattoo's look great.
- LOVE the Banner. You knock those out of the park.
- How do you do the snow bases?

Thanks all,

snow is white pva mixed with snow flock to make a slightly runny paste. I then smear it on the base in a thick clump then immediately redip the fig into the snow flock. Blow off and then kiss yourself for your awesome job.

Finally finished up some painting of a few minis for the army. I'm not happy with the warriors banner, I'd like to change it for a skull motif to go with my sorcerer lords death magic lore.

I think it looks good. I'd leave the banner. It's already painted! Just move on and do another banner if you want. Going back and redoing stuff is lame-o-tron!

Carson, that scheme is going to look great when everything is done. The gold really helps it out.

Scott's advice is lame-o-tron. If we're talking about the plain white banner then you must re-do that banner or you won't be happy. You know it. I know it, and Scott knows it. Scott's lying to you like good friends do. Very Happy For Christ's sake it's right beside an awesome (seriously) Tzeentch banner! Your banners are Jedi quality so don't let me down.

Don out.

It's a BSB beside a unit standard. Right now I can easily spot which model is your BSB. It's perfect. I hate it when you play people and the Army standard looks to be the same level of detail and quality as the unit standard. Every time I play a game and I either go to allocate attacks and get told the standard is not there, it's the lame one in the next unit, or a dude charges me, I hold, then he tells me to get ready for 3 strength awesome attacks from his character I always get pissed off. Leave it dude, move on. I says anyway.

I'm thinking I might switch out the units standard for a different type as right now all the standards in the army are identical.....that bugs me. Then no matter what I put on the banners you should be able to still pick out the army standard. I knoe exactly what Scott is saying.....the army standard should be the most godiest (is that a word) and distinct banner in an army.

It's "Godliest'. And I know what Scott is saying also. What I'm saying is that Chaos Warriors aren't a rag-tag bunch of Empire punks and they're certainly better than Marauders. These guys would take pride in the cloth they carry. PLUS, you do banners VERY well, so here's your opportunity to show off. *Plays Rocky theme music*

...on a side note: Scott, if you charged a unit that had 2 standards in it and didn't even ask which was which, you would deserve what's comin' to ya'. Razz (shot to the nuts)

I love the banners. It's clearly Tzeentch (BSB) and undivided (standard bearer).

The Slaanesh champion standard and the marauder standard here should be different enough to seal your force.

And if that's not what you're looking for, you can always check the Chaos Knights standards.

Finally got a bit of painting done here.

Front rank of a 6x3 warrior unit

WIP front rank of a 6x3 halberd warrior unit. *new bsb finished that I picked up from Don....I looked for a long time for this fig*
Does the free hand scary face look scary or comical....it almost seems to me to look like a carnival face at times?

WIP of a Sorcerer in Chariot. An idea I had kicked around for awhile.....seems to look evil enough as the Bloated sorcerer is borne into battle pulled by well muscled slaves.

Couple of characters I finished up as well.......you might notice the demoted former bsb fig is now "just" a bloodthirsty devotee of Khorne.
A little bit of GS to extend the arm appendage and he's got a new mutated arm and shield.
