I was told you guys like this kind of thing so figured I'd start posting pictures as I finish parts of my new work in progress. No actual models are done, but here is a play by play of how I am doing the bases.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190218-100054
First I cut out corkboard into squares just larger than the bases, glued them on and ripped them around the edges to make them more even with the base edge.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190218-111007
After using cork to make a couple steps I then cut a bunch of different "brick" sizes out of plasticard and glued them to every exposed top area of cork.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190218-171335
Next I used some snips to cut all of the plasticard right to the edges of cork and a modelling knife to give some wear and tear look to the "bricks."

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190218-180401
I then added some pieces of larger dark cork and my own mix of differing grit sizes.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190218-182216
Gave some areas varying coats of Citadel Stirland Mud.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190219-143722
Primed black and airbrushed the entire base with Citadel Bugman's Glow.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190219-172323
Airbrushed the bricks using Vallejo G. Cam Beige and the muddy areas/some of the rocky areas very thinly with Citadel Rhinox Hide. I then brushed on a thin coat of Deathworld Forest over some of the muddy/earthy areas.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190221-193851
Drybrushed the bricks very lightly but quite a lot with Citadel Ushabti Bone then light drybrush with Citadel Tyrant Skull. I then drybrushed the rest of the base rather well with Citadel Karak Stone.
Also stippled some Vallejo Weathering Moss very lightly into select areas.

Peter's Trollogre Army 20190227-114104]
Finished it off with some edge highlights on the bricks using a 1:1 of Citadel Ushabti Bone and Vallejo Offwhite. Added some Army Painter Mountain Tufts and some Gale Force flock then painted the base rim black.

Now lets hope I can get some models on these things in decent time. Razz

Oi those are freaking amazing, loved seeing the process from start to finish. Honestly that even helps me with my basing a ton. I just generally stick to the grass and glue or technical paints. But wow nice job Pete and great paint job.

But jeez someone has no loyalty, GW, Gale Force, Vallejo AND Army Painter, tisk tisk. haha jk

I wish I could put that much effort into painting let alone basing. Nicely done. I look forward to seeing the army come together.

@Sean Brands don't deserve loyalty, hell most individuals don't even deserve loyalty. Razz I had the Stirland Mud as I wanted to try the Citadel textures out but I will probably stick with Vallejo for that kind of thing. More(and arguably better) product at a better price point.

@Nathan I am sure you can put the effort in you just have to want to! Although not having kids helps with the whole time thing...

@Carson Yours and many others' awesome paint jobs are what have pushed me to improve and up my game so thanks for the compliments guys! Means a lot!

Looks awesome, but I have to say when I read the title of this thread I was hoping to see some models, MAKE IT HAPPEN!

This army idea seems like a good one to me.

After the bases turned out way better than intended I started to second guess my colour scheme so I fell behind on progress. Might be able to get another test one finished tonight though!

Oh right, I have a thread here for this stuff! The remaining bases are finished! And yes, so are some actual models this time. A unit of Tribesmen currently without command.

This looks great! The bases are fantastic, worth all the effort for sure. I like the clean paint scheme on the models as well and they contrast nicely with the bases.

Keep doing touchups to the Scratapault but I feel like there isn't much more I can do so here it is pre-varnish.
