Tournament rambling

Post  Carson on Tue Dec 19, 2017 3:50 pm

We are about 6 weeks out until Plains War. I thought I would throw this thread together to have one thread for organisation, feedback, suggestions etc.

Andre, and myself, jumped ahead and started putting this tournament together. We went ahead without the community as  there was a lot of talk but nothing ever started rolling. Ideally, the club would organize this as a group with a committee and tasks would be assigned etc.

As this is year 1 of hopefully many to come, Andre and myself will follow through with this and hopefully next year we can build on this and the club as a whole can take over the planning.

With that being said, this is where we stand

-Website designed and active.
-location booked
-A group of non players are going to run a canteen from the halls kitchen
-The tournament format has been worked out and posted in the news feed of the website.
-some trophys have been collected although we still need to gather the main trophys.
-the den has agreed to support us with a substantial donation and discount on the tournament date.

These are the items needed....

-engraved plates to go on the top 3 trophys.
-give away to each sign-up. Nathan and myself discussed this. Hopefully a 3d print of a turn counter can be made. Nathan would be refunded the cost for this.
-collection of mats and terrain. What I'm hoping for here is a listing of anyone with mats and terrain to post how many tables worth they can supply. We need 15 tables worth at most, probably needing 12 for sure. Each table needs a mat and 4-5 pieces of "good" terrain.

For example.....

Carson 3 tables worth of mats and terrain.

I will update this first post with whoever can supply the needed items.

update
****we have 15 tables filled****

Hi, I've got a mat and enough terrain for a table.
Want any themed tables?
A desert table, winter table, chaos, city, etc.

great responses guys, Some desert terrain would be great as I have a desert mat. I also have a winter table with themed terrain.

Sean let me know if you can get these made and how much. Idealy the tag would read plains war 2017 and then overall champion, best general, best painted.

How big should the plaque be? Do you have a material preference? We can make them say anything we want apparently.

I also have a city mat but its more 40K looking and an old terribly beaten up crater/wasteland mat that we can use if needed. I'll even vacuum it off Wink

Hey, definitely can do, what size and stuff? He said he could do something with some materials he has. Unfortunately metal is kind of a bitch when working with a laser so might have to be plastic. Like are these mounting on anything? We could do glass? just need more info before i send him anything, he wants a case of budlight for the work haha so i'm sure i could take care of that haha.

MMM Dessert mats *drools* To be fair a Dessert does have less than 50cm of rainfall a year... so technically counts? Or i'm picturing some candy land mat which is even funnier.

You guys should have a second job as comedians, don't make fun of my spelling, haters!

Sean, these need to be small enough to mount on a trophy. Is it possible to get colored glass to use, These could be good trophies, they would have to be very high quality to work for that though.

Do you have a measurement approximation? He does very high quality work, this is like a $30,000 laser cutting machine he has in his garage that i have no idea why he bought haha. He does work for the Health Region on it even so very good quality. He's done wine glasses, hockey glass board thingys, ornaments and beer bottles etc.

Not sure what is all still needed for this, as I couldn't be bothered to read all the comments, but I have a mat if need be. I have some terrain as well, not amazing stuff, but definitely passable if the need arises, someone just holler at me if any of this is helpful/ needed.

Will it be possible to have all the terrain for set up friday night? Also does anyone havd any thoughts about using 1.34 rules or 2.0 beta? Right now we are set to use 2.0 beta so make sure to get a game or 2 in prior to the tourny.

Just a word of warning the beta rules are beta and therefore not completely tested and are NOT the current set of rules so if we have people from out of town they may be blind sided if we use the 2.0 rules. We cannot change now with so little time till the tourney, I would recommend we stick to 1.3.5 for this event.

It's a tough one. The 2.0 rules are beta and therefore inherently unbalanced and unfinished. That said, this is exactly what a beta is for, playing games and identifying problems. Our tournament is in a perfect position to gather real data which can be useful for those making the final tweaks to the rules. I think if we play 2.0 then notes should be taken in each game as to what worked and what didn't, who won and with what record, what the army lists were etc. and those notes should be submitted to the 9th age.

If we don't want to go through all that rigmarole then stick with 1.3.

I was fully in camp 1.3 before. Now I'm curious as to if we decided to use 2.0 beta about extending the time frame for each game. It would make for a long day of gaming sure but at least players can take time to play the game and learn the rules right.

Summary 1.3 if we can't extend each game time
