Sean's Ogre Kingdom Army... Sean really needs to stop and finish one army

Post  Kal on Mon Mar 13, 2017 10:46 pm

Alright guys! Working on Maneater #2 today and Dragon Hide.... i'm thinking i'm going to make one of the banners looked like the ogre ripped it right off the ass of a dragon, like traditional green dragon maybe? Death world forest of Caliban Green for paint? or maybe Castellan Green?

Start with your darkest green and work up from there. Spot highlight at the end with yellow and maybe even white.

The paint is good, it's too bad that with all the great maneater models your unit of 4 has 2 of the same model in it but you've done some good work to convert the standard bearer. I might have tried to go further yet and do a head swap or something but that is pretty ambitious.

@ Brian - Thanks bud, you should post some pics too. i see alot of painted figs on your side of the table Wink

@ Carson - THANKS ! The conversion worked super well. drilled a hole through his hand and pop went the pole.

@ Nathan - I completely understand what you mean, and honestly right now its only done as a budgetary thing as i found the ogre originally in the 40% off bin at the Den, then the bubbles in the resin were SOOOO bad i took pics and send them to GW and they send me a free ogre and told me to keep the original. So technically these two maneaters only cost me 60% of one maneater. So i'm going to work on building the rest of the army (as one man eater is almost the price of a box of 6 ogres) and one day i'll replace him with a different one. Get it? Yeah i love the fig so much and the head and goblin parrot are the two most noticable things on it and my two favorite parts of the fig and i just couldnt bring myself to cutting them off or up. SO you guys will have to settle with an extra feather, different weapon, a knife instead of a gun in his belt, a flag instead of an anchor and a barrel of wine on his left belt... all i could do to make him different without looking like i was just gluing bits and throwing them to see what stuck...

OK not 100% finished, but the wash and base are drying so i figured I'd post a pic and get your opinions. This is more or less how the army is going to look... i think... maybe... bases are a tad boring but i want you to look at the gorgeous ogre figs not the flat black plastic bases they stand on you know?

I like these! One thing I'll suggest if you want to make them pop a bit more is to do a final top highlight after all your washes. Just on the edges of things where the light would hit. The washes do wonders for shading but they mute your highlights.

OK! will try that, the fur wash finally dried but I'm having a hard time figuring out WHERE and WHAT to drybrush the fur with. One is Mournfang Brown and the other Steel Legion Drab.... Maybe wash the first one in .... ???? and the second one in Baneblade Brown? and do it only around the mane and under belly and rear of legs kinda thing?

HELP! Shocked

Better? Still cant get the pictures 100% right, and as always after you take pics and zoom em in you see a dozen things but i think i'm going to count these as done for now and walk away and paint something else. I am noticing the bases need to be re edged in black, but the white glue i used for the grass is still wet ish so i'll wait till its 100% dry.

I enjoy Ogres... alot...

Thanks Carson! I have been showing amazing will power by not opening that box of Leadbelchers I bought until these mournfang are done haha. Thata how I'm doing this army, buy a box, build a box, paint a box. Buy a new box, repeat
