February Jobber '17

Post  ScottRadom on Tue Jan 31, 2017 10:25 pm

Another month, another set of mini's!

Me, a Blood Bowl Black Orc and a stand or two of FoW DAK Infantry.

Now, I reserve the right to switch as rumor has it my Creature Caster pledge from 2014 is going in the mail tomorrow!  That'd be a slick treat!  If that's the case I'll still finish the black orc but I'll put a lot of focus into one of those big bastards I got coming to me.

Who else is in with what?

I'm in. I may go the Wood Elf route this month, but I'll also consider the Creature Caster Daemon, Scott is going to receive. Wink

As I will be attending Adepticon at the end of March, I am committing to an entry for Crystal Brush competition. Therefore, I will start into a squid creature model from the Wrath of Kings range that I have been modelling for the past week or so. I will have to admit that I may not complete it within FEB, but will post some progress along the way.

In the last couple days, I've painted 24 Plaguebearers (just have to do the bases), a Nurgle Herald and a Mortarch that will be my Ark of Ages for the Tomb Kings army. I also built and primed the new Lord of Change model AND 25 Horrors. Not sure what I'm posting for this month.

I was supposed to go to the Edmonton Team event, but couldn't because of work. I got some serious painting in instead!

Attaboy Don, but you know the score.  Pics or you eat the green wiener.  I got mine done and some assorted stuff ready to hit March hard.  This was a rough month as I was too sick to paint well for about 2 weeks.  Nothing too bad just a shitty full body style cold where I couldn't really think or see straight.  Not to the level where I could paint anyway.  I did start a new fallout 4 game and sunk a ton of hours into that though.  Anyway, here's my Feb...

Looks good, and you're locked for Feb. I'll post a pick of the Mortarch as my Feb. I sent pics of the stuff I posted to Carson and Sean a week ago....cuz it's easy on the phone. I'll post everything though.

Going to switch gears and paint up my Empire BSB instead of the dwarfs that I haven't started. Should be able to get him done in the last few days of February.

I got the BSB mostly painted, just need to do his flag and his base. I picked up some Vallejo paints (a couple steel/silvers, a gold and 2 blues) and used them for the first time. They look great. I don't think I'm ever going back to GW metallics and the blues are very vibrant as well. Crap. Now I'm going to have to replace all my paints. Thanks a lot Scott.

Anyway, I'm going to base this guy tonight and then do some freehand on the flag tomorrow night and squeak in just under the deadline.

I did a thing!
Not the thing I intended, but a thing. The project for Adepticon is still ongoing but I took time to paint a dwarf slayer, but don't have the ability to upload right now. I will try this evening. **EDIT** Took this one to Adepticon as well. Although it was completed in FEB, one of the rules of Crystal Brush is that it couldn't be a part of any online competition. i didn't want to risk that they might consider this challenge a competition.

I warned you. I showed you the test model and warned you.

And, to be fair - I did a lot of home work on what rotten flesh looks like (don't do this) and it's rarely green. There's a lot of Blues, Purples, Blacks, Browns, White, but very little actual GW history Green.

Just and FYI.....

I like the plague bearers. Also you have to tell me how to paint black like that on the mortarch. I've tried in the past to get that effect and never been able to.

Here's the bsb. Not too happy with the banner, I may redo it but for now it's done.

Nathan R, I really like the banner. You do some pretty good banners, ma boy. You're obviously putting a lot of work into that army - it's gonna look super special I think, and this is exactly what I was hoping for when you got it. Also, the St. Bernard, is a very cool touch.

Nathan A, it's how I've done my whole TK army and super easy. Prime black, dry brush Russ Grey (apply to taste) and then a light dry brush of Fenrisian Grey. This model was a big pain in the butt as I assembled it, primed black and then had to put a couple coats of white on/in/around the skulls before washing them with Nihikikh Oxide, dry brushing white and then cleaning up all the black again. Took a long time, but I really like this model for a centerpiece.

The freehand is certainly decent. Don't over think it or beat yourself up over it. It's good!

I think it is too white. I'm going to try a wash on it tonight and if that wrecks it I'll start over and not feel too sad about it.
