December Jobber!

Okay, new month time. Christmas or whatever is a big deal but make sure you find tie to zen out with a paintbrush and keep the rock going.

I'm in too. Painting up an avatar of Khaine, probably. Technically I started him in November but there is a ton of work to do on him so I'm going to go with it anyway. Very out of my comfort zone on this one. Lots of metalwork and I'm going to try to get a lot of depth to it. Almost NMM but with metalic paints. We'll see if I can manage it or if it will end up a failure. Either way I'll power through and it doesn't matter because it has no place in any of my armies.

For this month, the challenge will be black. I have always observed that black can often be as difficult to nail as white. Most times that I have done it, highlights have been too stark or chalky. If I can find him in hobby abyss, the subject will be Deathmaster Sniktch.

Thanks Scott, I might take you up on that. If nothing else I'll try to post WIP pictures here that you can all tear apart. This paint scheme has both silver and gold and lots of little edges and contoured surfaces so it probably isn't the best model to try things for the first time but I'm a sucker for punishment I guess. I plan to get some painting done tonight so maybe I'll post the first WIP picture.

I finished my December Jobber up. Plan on doing more of course but he's a Blood Bowl lineman painted up in Turquoise glory. He's in the new Blood Bowl section if you'd like to have a gander.

I'm thinking I might finally do the High Elf Lord on Griffon. Maybe. Probably.

I think you should paint the cat part of the griffon as a tiger. It would fit well with your colour scheme.

I have spent 5 hours soft blending black to white on the Deathmaster's cloak. It hardly looks different than my 20 minute job on another comparable model. Apparently this is what 'next-level' painting is all about.

Painting a 21 Block of Flame Wardens for the High Elf army. Lots of distracting stuff going on but I think I can pull it off.

21 Flame Wardens all done! I'm waiting to do the bases when I finish the 10 Sisters of Avelorn, then do them all together. After that my High Elf infantry army is finished!

love it, very vibrant. The hooded heads make the unit look so much better than the original. How come some of the faces are black?

Great news, I did manage to finish off the painting tonight, all that's left is the base work.  I'll hopefully knock that out tomorrow so it'll be done just in time.  Next month I'm going to paint some test models for an empire army.  A knight, a demigryph knight, a crossbowman, a pistollier, and a flagellant.

Haha I actually have zero uses for this guy. If ever I would be inclined to eBay a model, this would be it. Anyone want it? He's based on a 40mm base, perfect for a bad-ass unit filler for a block of witch elves or executioners.

Looks good nathan, the transitions on the gold could of been a bit more gradual but overall its really nice, sword wor is cool.

Which is exactly why you should keep it! Use it as a filler, an objective or even a terrain piece. Who knows, maybe it'll get rules....

So, here is the Deathmaster, in all his attempted darkness. As I said earlier, I spent hours working and re-working this cloak. Still hard to get a gradual transition, so i am going to have to practice this several more times to feel good a bout it.

Looks good Kieran!

Black and white are in my opinion the absolute hardest paint choices out there. It not easy at all.

When I think I've been able to do a passable black I've found I start from a very dark grey. I take a Vallejo black grey and add black to it. Using that as a base I glaze the base colour many times, 5-6 maybe with a GW black wash. I usually use a Vallejo green grey to the base coat as I add highlights and I usually don't do much for intermediate stuff. And I often glaze over with the GW black wash after I've gone back with mid tones and highlights. It's a long tedious affair. I do have some Necromunda looking ganger dudes I am going to put some paint on soon so I'll have to give it a go and see if I can do it.

Black is a bitch!
