9th Age Version 1.2

Post  nathanr on Tue Oct 25, 2016 11:37 pm

The 1.2 rules are out. First impressions? Looks like 4500 is the new standard point limit.

1st question, if we are playing 4500 points and my army totals to 4460 do I need 1125 points of core (4500/4) or 1115 (4460/4)? The reason being that for dark elves, the dark raiders count for both core (min. 25%) and raiders (max. 25%). That means I have to hit 25% exactly if I am to use my all-mounted dark elves. Unfortunately the dark raider units don't have a lot of options to get the points to the perfect value. It is impossible to hit 1225 no matter what combination I use.

I'm going to spend some time tomorrow to see what happens to my other lists.

4500 is the balancing point but 5000 seems to be what people who are used to 2500 points are aiming to play. We should decide what point level we want to do going forward; maybe try both?

Going to work my way through the rules and see what's what.

So I managed to figure out how to make 4 units of dark raiders for 1250 points. So at least I can use them if we move to 5000. My original question still stands though. Are the percentages calculated from the point limit (5000) or the actual total points of the army? This is important because I need to have exactly 25% if I am going to legally make the all-mounted Dark Elf list.

You do the latter, Nathan (1115/4460) as you're required to match the percentage to the amount you spend on your army, not the game limit. That means however, that you will be playing 40 points short of your opponent.

Thanks Kieran, I'm glad to hear that.  I think I can make it work with 4480 then. It makes it doubly hard because I will have to also hit 4480 total points. I'll see if it is possible I guess.

5000 points .... have i been gone this long?

Did everything get more expensive or are we just bringing more stuff now? Still on a 6x4 table?

Points are doubled now Sean - to get rid of .5 points.

Basically, some things were 1 point, but that's too cheap for each model, but 2 points is too much for a halberd, but 1.5 is a pain as you're often left with .5 points. This just fixes that. 5000 points is still 2500 equivalent.

I vote for 5000 games. My onslaught list works out to 4964.

My Bloodthirster is now almost 1100 points, that's hard to get used to. Smile

Everything got more expensive. Makes it easier to balance things.

The book victory level chart is based on 4500pts but we could use the table anyway with 5000pt lists.

My gunline is nerfed. No more rune master or master engineer. I can take a second unit of hold guardians

I reread what you wrote and I'm completely cool with 5000 points if that works best for most lists. I'd have to drop stuff anyways for 4500 and I'd rather not. We'll figure out the VP's because we're all known and super intelligent guys. Smile

I've made 5000 point lists for my Wood Elves and High Elves and it seems almost too easy. No hard decisions required. Although I am basically putting what I had at 2500 in so maybe that's how it should be.

I'll make a dwarf and KoE tonight and see how those go.

My 2500pt onslaught list fit perfectly into the new army construction with room for a fallen beast(spawn), or extra spells.

Still roll for them, but you buy the # of spells you can roll for.

Anyone else notice that miscasting is a cummulative damage. If you roll +20 you suffer all four effects

I think they went a little too crazy on comp restrictions. Just have to play some games and see.
