Kill Team - 40k

Post  Kal on Tue Oct 25, 2016 9:36 pm

Kill Team:

Long time no talk guys. SOOO I’m just going to jump right into it:

Kill Team is A LOT of fun and I mean A LOT of fun, honestly the most fun I’ve had playing a table top game so far. Don’t get me wrong large scale battles have their elements too but the fact that you can smash out a kill team game in 30 mins easily and that the objectives actually matter changes your thinking a lot. Holding objectives, assassinating opponents specialists and tons of other fun little scenarios. Plus the fact that everything moves independently means you can actually have really tight together terrain placement. So the way it works is every guy in unit acts as his own unit in this game. So if I have a unit of 5 marines: 3 with bolt guns, 1 with plasma gun and a Sergeant with Chainsword and Bolt Pistol. And they all deploy and act independently on the field. This is super cool as it allows you to be more tactical. Trying to hid a horde of 50 Spearmen behind a piece of terrain in Fantasy is difficult, but choosing to hide a guy in a fort, under the stairs, away from windows, with his back to a corner in Kill Team while he holds an objective is a totally viable tactic. Two of my favorite game types are Supply Drop and Hold the Center. Supply drop you scatter 6 objective markers all over the table and roll a dice when you get to them, if you roll a 6 you have the Important Supply Drop and you remove the remaining makers and all fight over one point! This is fun because we played a game once where we all rushed the closest 5 objectives and found none of them were the Important Drop. So we all made a mad RUN move to the point which ended up with my snipers being pulled way out of position and caught out in the open and mowed down by some Chaos Chosen. SUPER fun game. Hold the Point is even better because we put a giant staircase in the middle and our individual models moving as their own units actually had a small enough footprint to fight their way UP the stairs. I had a marine on the top of the stairs that got shot off by a rapid fire plasma gun from a Chaos Chosen that was climbing the stairs. Just when the Chosen’s head came over the top of the stairs to hold the point he got lit up by 5 sniper shots! BAM. Oh plus every army gets a leader which has a unique ability 1 of 6. And TWO specialist are for example. “Sharpshooter, +1BS” or give any one guy any special rule such as Stubborn or Relentless (move and shoot)”  Anyways I bring this up because you only need 200 points to play. I created 4 lists with 4 different armies to give an example of how little you need to play this. So anyone who was thinking of dipping their toes into 40k this is a great way to do it. You get the feel for the game without having to invest tooo much. Anyways next event I was going to offer to bring some terrain and the 4 kill teams to try out if enough people were interested. Anyways here are some rough lists. (And yes i did just re read that and Its chaos, i gotta work on my text walls, sorry / GOOD LUCK)

Dark Angels Space Marines:

6 Tactical Marines - Bolt Gun, Bolt Pistol
1 Tactical Marine - Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol
1 Sergeant - Combi-Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol

5 Scouts - Sniper Rifles, Bolt Pistols

Chaos Space Marines:

2 Chaos Marines - Extra Close Combat Weapon, Bolt Pistol
4 Chaos Marines - Bolt Gun, Bolt Pistol
1 Chaos Marine - Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol
1 Aspiring Champion - Combi-Plasma Gun, Bolt Pistol, Extra Close Combat Weapon

9 Chaos Cultists - Autogun, Autopistol
1 Cultist Champion - Shotgun, Autopistol

Tau:

20 Fire Warriors - Photon Grenades, Pulse Rifles
2 Tactical Support Turrets

Necrons:
11 Warriors - Gauss Flayer Guns
2 Tomb Blades - Twin Linked Gauss Cannon, Shadowloom
1 Tomb Blade - Twin Linked Tesla Carbine, Shadowloom

Anyways we have all these armies / figs so i could bring them all. I didnt add fast attack bikes to anything but the Necrons, mostly because Necron units are so expensive base that its hard to fit anything into 200 points. BUT Necrons have a 5+ chance to stand the fuck back up after you kill them... hence the higher cost and they still can bring decent numbers. The Tau could be dirty for this game, i havent played them but their guns are 6" longer range and +1 str over your normal Bolt Gun. BUT they are TERRIBLE in CC, like can get beat up by Fantasy Goblins haha easily. The Space / Chaos marines are pritty straight forward, you could drop scouts or cultists for fast attack bikes or jump pack assault marines or just more generic marines. Lots of equipment variations too. Any questions? (again i'm still learning this game / rules)

Oh and some vehicles are viable in this game type, but theres a rule about its sides not having TOOO much armour, so crazy stuff isnt an option but Transports with big guns attached to them work. I want to bring a Rhino Tank with an Assault Cannon on it for my marines, have it as mobile cover while they try and hold objectives and shoot around it.

You need to break up that first post with paragraphs. It huuuuurts. Smile

I have Daemons and ready to go. My list is letters, Crushers and Flesh hounds. Apparently Daemons aren't great for kill team, but no worries.

I am interested and I bought the digital kill team rules. I am also getting the Tau from the box set Dwayne bought. Probably add a battle suit or something to finish off the list.

Thats another thing im trying to do, is get a high def scan of the Kill Team rule book for you guys. Honestly you dont need the whole thing.

@ Nathan - A battle suit would be cool, it cant have a 2+ Save tho in Kill Team, not sure if it does but yeah. Restrictions. Anyways if you had the Tau book i wouldnt mind a picture of the fire warrior page so i can get all the rules down Wink I bought the Kill Team Box Set so thats where i made my little Tau Kill Team from but it doesnt have all of the rules.

@ Don - I warned you it was hard to read, paragraphs are confusing lol. Ok don i tried to make your list and idk how you managed to fit all that haha. I made Daemons with Letters and Hounds but couldnt fit the Crushers, you have to take full units still even tho they act independently. I Can see why Daemons arnt great... Brian is bringing more numbers than you and he gets a 4+ save and a get back up 5+. So 2 saves. where Daemons only get a 6+ Armour an a 5+ invunerable. which you can only choose to take ONE a turn... so cover save, armour save or invulnerable save. and where most stuff in the game is running around with 3+ Power Armour... IF you hate Daemons im sure it wouldnt be tooo hard for you to find 200 points of another army somewhere. Just saying.

Oh I get that. I'm not sweating it though I'll try a game and if it's something I'd do often ill paint up another faction - or 3.

I don't think I got all that in, 10 letters and 2 units of hounds if I remember. I'd swap for the crushers though.

**edit*** autocorrect sucks ass.

I read the book and it looks good.  I have the space marine tac squad and a bunch of eldar to play with so I'm interested.

Tau are going Nathan's way; probably at Carson's the weekend; or just dropped off.
