Playtest doubles/teams FOW

Post  LorSve on Fri Mar 11, 2016 1:39 pm

I am interested in making/trying some modified rules for Flames of war to improve doubles/team play. Is there interest?

Could be fun, doubles events are always cool. The only problem being you need twice the turn out.

Id try it out too. I've got enough British to make 2 late war lists. Any details you'd like to share about your idea Lorne?

I'll have write them out.
4ft tables per game. Points per player 900 or less. 8ft(doubles) would have 3x objectives per side. Initially I would be looking at FFA and encounter.

Why do you need twice the turnout?

Because a 6-person doubles event is not going to work very well. 8 is the minimum to have a proper tournament. In singles play you could have a 3 game round robin with 4 players (8 is twice as many as 4).

If you are regularly getting 20 players out it isn't an issue but that isn't the case with the Saskatoon FOW scene.

I'm thinking 2v2 or 3v3 game that could be done in a reasonable length of time.

What is wrong with the Total War rules Lorne?

I'm not a huge of total war. In my opinion turns take too long and its mostly a shooting/artillery game.

We used to have an issue with turn time - but we now use team Captains and it dramatically speeds up play.
As for a shooting and artillery game - how do you win if you don't take the objectives? How big of a table are you playing on?
Also, artillery are at a major risk from Paratroopers & Recce in Total War as they can come on from any side

Interesting so far - way less than Total War
