FIrst Special Service Force

Post  Ddodge on Wed Feb 24, 2016 6:18 pm

Hi, I have put together a FSSF list for 1420 points and I want your feedback.
I chose this list cause I love aggressive infantry and these ones may be the best, I also appreciate the historical importance of the only ever USA/Canadian joint unit, and my great Aunts hubby was a LT. in this unit and actually managed to survive the war.

Lots of infantry- two to attack one to defend. No artillery, but mobile mortars/75 mm guns. Also the mortars from the platoons can form a squad with the 2ic. A few too many special rules for me to remember too.
THOUGHTS?

I like it. There's a bit there for 1420. Is there any way to get the Hellcats to 4?

I like it a lot, I would agree that you need more AT though. 4 hellcats would be the trick.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. It is one of the digital ones. Road to Rome I think.

I'll look at more hellcats.

But I super love the story behind the m3's with the 75 mm and mortars. "When the survivors of Darby's Rangers were folded into the FSSF, they brought along their cannon platoon. The platoon consisted of four M3 half-tracks mounting 75mm guns and carrying 81mm mortars. Known as Co. Darby's ace-in-the-hole, each half-track displayed either a space, heart, diamond, or club painted on the fenders or gun shield to identify which ace it was.

Each M3 mounted both an M1919A4 light machine-gun and an M2 .50 cal heavy machine gun.

The platoon provided just the right support for the fast moving FSSF. They provided direct fire, artillery, smoke, and suppressing fire to assist the FSSF in their hard-hitting missions." bounce

Every US list I make has 4 M5 mortars with .50 cal AA. They just seem super useful for 110 points.

The cards idea painted on the side is hella cool.

Revised one less recon squad. Still some mortars to pin down infantry for assault. Three less bazookas but two more hellcats should be just fine to compensate.
