So... Brian was telling me about a 9th age post he read yesterday. Apparently they are going to have the 9th Age that we are playing and a simpler dumbed down version (aka Sigmar). It will be shed of the more confusing rules like Lightning Reflex and stuff like that... not sure how i feel about that. As long as the quality and focus for 9th doesnt change and the simpler version of the game becomes a gate way for new players then awesome....

Anyways I'm building Wild Riders right now and need to figure out how i want to model them. Going over rules for Fast cav and Musicians i just want your opinion. Since Fast Cav lets you unlimited reform is there any need for a musician? It gives you the ability to swift reform, +1 leadership when rallying and +1 in combat ties. So i mean other then the situational chance of fast cav actuallying tieing a combat or enough of them surviving to rally.... dont really need a musician then right?

I always give them a musician.  You could always just cut the horn off of the hand and attach it to the saddle so it isn't as obvious that he's a musician.  Then you have the option of taking it or not.  If someone calls you on it and asks "where's the musician?" you can point to the dude with the trumpet hanging off his belt.

also, they aren't fast cav, they're light troops.

Ok that idea works for me. I'll stick a horn or two on a saddle and say fuck it!

Well same deal just different name right?

No fast cav get all the light troops rules and can move and shoot the turn they rally.

If i take an ogre character with a magical weapon and an ironfist which is a paired weapon what is my set up for close combat? Do i use the magic weapon (not a two handed one) in one hand as required and the ironfist in the other(as a specialized shield)

You dont get Parry if your using a magical weapon and shield so id assume you wouldnt get the other bonuses other then the armour save from the ironfist either.

I have to disagree and not just bc i want to. An ironfist is a paired weapon so i should recieve all bonuses associated with a paired weapon. There is a specific rule stating that you dont get parry when using a magic weapon so i agree with that part

Unless the magical weapon says its a paired weapon im pritty sure u have to use it over all mundane weapons so if the ironfist is actually a paired weapon then I dont think u get to use it at all with a magical weapon not even as a shield. As its a weapon that adds defensive bonus not a shield that adds offensive bonus...

The proof is in your page references...and i am using my magical weapon. My sheild hand just also happens to give me the ability to smash you in the faca as well as adding to my armor. The two abilities are not exclusive from one another

The ogre army has Magical Iron Fist weapons. So if you pick one of those then you have Magical "Iron Fists" and may use the full rules of the Iron Fist (which in the Ogre book is labeled as Paired Weapons with Parry) but if you pick another magical weapon then you have a Magical "Hand Weapon" not Magical "Paired Weapons" imo you cant think of Paired Weapons as two weapons, they dont add a second weapon they just count as "one type of weapon" so Hand, Great, Paired, Great; etc. Heck i dont even think you get the Armour save in close combat if your using a Magical Hand Weapon and are also equipped with Iron Fists. as they would be a mundane weapon you'd be unable to equip to fight. Such as a shield when your using Halberds.

Page 70 where it lists Paired weapons as a mundane weapon

Page 104 where it says you must use magical weapons over mundane weapons unless the magical weapon is lost

Page 2 (Ogre Army Book) Iron Fists are a Paired Weapon. It also specifically has a rule that lets you Parry with Magical Iron Fists, where as normal Magical Hand Weapons Can Not Parry but it doesnt say you can use Mundane Iron Fists with Magical Hand Weapons.

Page 4 (Ogre Army Book) Magical Iron Fist Weapons.

Actually you missed the part that solves it all. Page 70 paired weapon requires two hands thus i could not have a magical weapon in one hand and an ironfist in the other.

Dont believe i missed it at all. You were the one calling it a shield. But either way, problem solved.

So question. Savage Ork Maniaks have a Lance and Paired Weapons.

Am i forced to use the Lance in the first round of combat and then i revert to the Paired weapons in the second round? or?
