Sean's Canadian's

Post  Kal on Tue Jan 05, 2016 10:12 am

So my goal for this game is honestly to just have ONE list that i master, an all comers of sorts for Canadians, if someone wants to make and post me a list so i know what models to buy Wink please? lol I'm much more interested in playing then i am designing lists and having a variety in FoW. So once i got a list I'll go buy the figs, so far i bought... lots two box's of British Shermans (i think) and a box of infantry that im assuming is incorrect for Canadians (they are british)

Nope - you bought the right guys. Same figs. If you bought 2 boxes of Sherman's that have fireflies in them, then you're gold so far. You'll need some reconnaissance and the rest we can fill out. Always wanted to do the land mattresses for Canadians. Smile

British, Polish, New Zealand, South African, Australian, Canadian, & one or two I am probably forgetting about all use the British equipment.
I would be happy to make you a list - this year is 1420 but we are running a 1775 tournament on the 23rd of January & then a two day tournament on the 23rd & 24th of April @ 1775.
Any suggestions or desires Sean?

They are okay but I prefer actually artillery for direct fire purposes.

Re: Sean's Canadian's

Can you post what books each of those options are from?  I've been told that Market Garden is the book to use for Canadians but it isn't on Forces of War yet so I've been using Overlord for my lists.  I like it but everything is Confident Trained so you get more quantity but less quality.

I like Option C, but I would take less artillery personally.  I'm probably wrong about that of course but that's just my style.

I've made 2 lists for Canadians, one for an infantry company (similar to option C) and one for an armoured company.  I can post them here as well if you like. Both are from Overlord and I can scale them anywhere from 1420 to 1775 points.  If you've got the plastic shermans and plastic british infantry then you've got a great start for either armoured or infantry.  I'd recommend buying a couple blisters of 6pdrs and universal carriers as they are both a great addition, then you have to decide if you are going to use artillery or rather what you are going to use for artillery.

What you should actually do first is sign up for Forces of War: <Forces of War> and do some tinkering.  Don't just put "Canadian" in the Country drop down as most of the good Canadian lists are classified as British lists but use Canadian variations.  Look for the "(C3rd)" or "(C4th)" etc. or "Canadian" in the descriptions instead.  Like I said before, I have been using the Overlord book for my Late War Canadians but once the Market Garden book comes out it is apparently the better choice.  Still, a lot of your core options will remain the same between books so Overlord should be able to get you started.

Edit: Just had a look and apparently Market Garden lists are available. I made a quick list for you:

The first two lists are CV - I hate CT

Why can't I play more people like you? No special rules British especially Mike target - easy win! Smile
At 1775 I expect to see double arty parks - that's when things get really nasty.
5.5's to dig out and 25pds for massive smoke! Or, if you move to get out of the 5.5's double wide template.

Fair enough, I know I have a lot to learn in this game. I just don't feel that I need a lot of artillery to be effective.

Sean, I doubt you'll need 3 boxes of shermans unless you are going with an Armoured list. Honestly I think an infantry company with some supporting armoured platoons gives you more bang for your buck and is probably where you're going to end up eventually anyway. One thing to keep in mind when you are building your list is that you want an even number of platoons as most of the scenarios dealing with reserves says "at least half" of your platoons are to be held in reserve meaning that if you have an odd number you start with more platoons in reserve than on the table.

The list I posted above has 8 platoons, if you were playing a defensive game I'd start with the two infantry, the 6pdrs and the artillery on the table and the rest in reserve.

The British (Canucks included) have the option to night attack.
* A lot of the half off missions are defensive (in which only the defender has 1/2 his/her stuff = the attacker gets all his/her stuff or is only reserves compared to delayed reserves)

You have 3 boxes of Sherman's/firefly? Are they all plastic or resin?
