Flames of war weekend in Saskatoon - SEPT. 25-26

Post  nathanr on Sat Aug 01, 2015 10:22 pm

EDIT:

September 25-26 is the date for this.
1900 points Late War is the preferred format for this, but I won't turn you away if you only have mid-war stuff.  Lets set mid-war points at whatever the standard is, I think 1710 or some dumb number like that.

People can show up at my place on the Friday anytime after 5:00 and you can stay until I kick you out.  Feel free to come and go as you prefer anytime over the weekend.  I have beds and couches for up to 5 people. You can stay over Saturday night but I need to leave at 9:30 Sunday morning so you'll need to leave sooner than that.

I have room to put 3 tables comfortably in my basement and if more than that show up I could put another one upstairs.  I have enough terrain to furnish 2 tables so if you have terrain maybe think about bringing it along.

This is the same weekend as Tooncon so plan accordingly.  I won't be offended if you want to go play board games as well.  Lastly, I have a 1900 point Canadian Company that can be used by anyone who doesn't have an army but wants to try the game.

September would work best for me but I can probably make anytime work. Great idea.

Late August or September work great for me, late middle or early war?

Late War seems to be the Era of choice lately.

I can venture into midwar as well but early is pretty much out for me unless I run pure, unsupported infantry.

I think early is out for me also, unless FoW is the only game I play - which won't happen.

I think to keep it simple I'm going to say Late war. If someone shows up with a mid-war company I'm sure we can arrange it so that they can get a game but most of the action is going to be late war.

I would need the artillery, the bagpiper, the Boy's antitank rifle teams, and a universal carrier with an antitank rifle in addition to the tanks to be able to build that list. Not saying it couldn't be done but that is quite a bit for me to buy on the off chance that I might want to play a game of early war. I figure mid and late war is more than enough to keep me interested.

- I have 3 platoons myself of these guys (figured everyone has Bren/UCs)

I've got the universal carriers but none armed with Boys antitank rifles. But I do have a few with PIATs so I could use those as proxies. Really the only thing I'd need I guess would be the artillery and I should really buy that for mid and late war anyway.

Anyway, this isn't really the tread for this discussion. This thread is about me hosting a late war gaming weekend at my house. Looking at a calendar and my schedule it is likely going to end up being later in September. Would anyone object if I planned it for the same weekend as Tooncon (September 25-27)? We aren't going to have a tournament or anything, just a few days of gaming and socializing and you can come and go as you please.

Sorry - guess I should have stated a new thread instead of hijacking this one.
Meanwhile - have a great time at your place! Maybe give EW a try Wink

Early war... uck.

Mid is my fav and Late is quasi acceptable. That weekend is my wifes birthday and late enough in the season that golf should be winding down. I look forward to a game or two. And to getting drunk and just laying in to all you nerds.
