Finished one Platoon of Infantry and already started the second - which I expect to look pretty much like this one. Smile After these are done, my British are complete. They are really shiny in the pics, as I take crappy pics. Also, the infantry is from the 7th Armoured Division and didn't bother with helmets as they felt they got in the way (of dying?) Anyways, I thought that was cool, just thought I'd explain the lack of helmets. Brave boys!

 Next will be Soviets....

So, with my British mostly painted I'm going to move on to Soviets! I think I pretty much want to buy everything Soviet, but want to start with stuff you don't see everyday. I've put together a lend lease Soviet army, meaning every piece of equipment isn't Russian. They borrowed everything from the Yanks with a promise to pay it back. What usually happened was they received the Tanks, etc in US colours and then just put their stars, etc on. I want to show up to events with armies you rarely/never see.

By the way, I was home sick today and glued everything together listening to podcasts.

Here's my Rota Razvedki list:

HQ -
2 M3A1 scout car, .50 cal AA

5 M3A1 scout cars, .50 cals AA, 9 bases MG/Rifles + flamethrower team
5 M3A1 scout cars, .50 cals AA, 9 bases MG/Rifles + flamethrower team
10 M4A2 (76mm), .50 cals AA
8 M3A1 Stuarts Light Tanks
4 M10, 3 inch, .50 cal AA
Spetsnaz recce platoon, captured German halftracks

6 Platoons
26 ea. .50 cals!!!

Is a 4 Platoon list that bad?

HQ - M4 76mm

10 - M4A2 76mm, 50 cals
10 - M4A2 75mm, 50 cals, tank escorts
5 - M10 SP 3", 50 cals
Spetnaz Recce

Further to that, how important is even numbered Platoons? I seem to make even numbered platoons more for the visual aspect than strategy. Is a 7 tank Platoon bad?

2 reasons why even is better than odd:

Deployment: if you have 7 platoons and you have to keep half in reserve you are starting with 3 platoons on the table.

Company morale: you have to take the test if you lose over half your platoons. With 7 platoons that means you are testing once you lose 4. With 8 platoons it goes up to 5. With 6 platoons it is still 4.

No, Levi plays frequently with a 4 Company/platoon list - it is hard as hell to kill him off! You have to kill 3 freakishly large platoons.

I've started painting and kept gluing this weekend. This is most of my soviets and more than I need for mid war and late war. US leased tanks in mid war are conscript so things will interesting. Smile. Just finishing up some infantry bases and that's it! I need some more US armoured paint and should be all ready for regionals

What war would that be Sean?

That is one hell of a large armoured force. Remember Stalin's moto.........quantity has a quality all its own.

What colour does all that stuff end up? Russian colours or British?

'Merican I think.  Then the soviets would put their star on it and call it a day. Conscript tanks is an interesting concept.  They hit just as hard but they'll die like crazy.  Like I heard at the tournament: "you'll always know where they've been!"  Better stock up on destroyed tank markers.

Re: Squalie vs. Flames of War

Nathan is correct. Americans sent them, Russians slapped their insignia on it and went rolling. The only thing that the soviets did was paint over the laundry list of operating instructions that were all over the Sherman tanks. ( I thought this was cool) If you see pictures of the 76mm tanks just off the boat, there is stencilled printing all over the side of a tank. Looks cool.

Soviets quite liked the 76mm, even though they would proudly proclaim the T34/85 was "Better". Apparently the polish much preferred the T34 and howled when they had to use the Sherman. The day battlefront releases a polish list with soviet equipment I will be many dollars poorer.

It was common for divisions to mix American and soviet tanks but I was just running full steam with the lend lease stuff and trying to keep it pure American.

If you had to pick one list to play a dozen games with, which would you choose? I'm finishing up my painting before V4 and want to have a list ready to practise with, Lol. All Lend Lease for theme.(for some reason I couldn't post army list PDF's here) The models are in the pictures earlier in the thread.

I'm leaning towards the Rota Razvedki as it also easily fits into Mid War and I think requires a certain finesse that I'd like to learn.

Rota Razvedki: (Mechanized, 6 Platoon)
- Rota HQ, 3 M3A1 , Komissar
- 5 M3A1 armoured transport, 9 rifle team, 50 cal AA
- 5 M3A1 armoured transport, 9 rifle team, 50 cal AA
- 8 M4A2 Sherman 75mm
- 10 M4A2 Sherman 76mm
- 3 ZSU M17 AA
- Limited Spetsnaz

Inomarochnikiy: (Armoured, 6 Platoon)
- HQ M4A2 Sherman 76mm
- 10 M4A2 Sherman 75mm, 5 with 50 cal
- 10 M4A2 Sherman 76mm, 5 with 50 cal
- Razvedki Platoon, 5 M3A1 transport, 9 rifle stands, 50 cal
- 3 ZSU M17 AA
- Anti tank 4 ZIS-3, 4 M3 Halftrack, 50 cal
- Short Spetsnaz
