Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
I could send my terrain even if I can't make it to the tournament. I'd love to come but the end of April has both my wife and my son's birthdays so weekends are a hot commodity.

That would be appreciated!
Would be great if you can make it as well.

Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
Was playing around with Forces of War this weekend and I made a new list:
British Airlanding Company - Late War
Company HQ - 2 Cmd SMG Team, 2 PIAT Team
Airlanding Platoon - Cmd Panzerfaust SMG Team, 1 PIAT Team, 1 Light Mortar Team, 5 Rifle/MG Team
Airlanding Platoon - Cmd Panzerfaust SMG Team, 1 PIAT Team, 1 Light Mortar Team, 5 Rifle/MG Team
Airlanding Machine-gun Platoon - 1 Cmd Rifle Team, 2 Vickers HMG
Airlanding Mortar Platoon - 1 Cmd Rifle Team, 2 Observer Rifle Team, 4 ML 3" Mk II Mortar
Airlanding Anti-tank Platoon - 1 Cmd Rifle Team, 4 OQF 6 pdr gun (late)
Airborne Armoured Recce Platoon - 4 Cromwell IV
Airlanding Anti-tank Platoon - 1 Cmd Rifle Team, 4 OQF 6 pdr gun (late)
Anti-tank Platoon (SP), Royal Artillery - 4 M10C 17 pdr SP
1900 points, 8 platoons
The best part about this company is that I have pretty much all the models for it. I need 4 more 6 pdrs but I need those anyway for my Canadians so that's no big deal. I'll also need the mortars but I can get those in all kinds of different ways so I'm not concerned about that either. I'm liking Forces of War more and more. If only they'd get the Mid-War books on there I'd be a happy camper.

I like the idea, it makes it a very defensive list. An air landing platoon and a 6 pdr platoon on each objective, each air landing platoon will have 2 PIATs and a panzerfaust makes it a pretty tough nut to crack. It also has a bit of offensive mobility in the 17 pdrs and the cromwells.

Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
I'm just talking you out of it as I don't want to go up against 8 X 6 pdrs. That would make a mess. You have enough against Tank and infantry that's for sure.
I had the Vickers in some of my lists, but a few had mentioned for me to replace them - although I really liked the idea of them.

Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
I've got them and the mortars to get me up to 8 platoons. That way in the scenarios where half my platoons are in reserve I can still have the two air landing platoons and the two 6 pdr platoons deployed where I want them. They have their uses though, defensive fire vs infantry or they can be used to fire bombardments to pin. The mortars can fire smoke to help the tanks survive.
Oh, and the Canadian list I was looking at could have 12 6 pdrs! I don't think I'd go that far though.

Very good plan - especially with little mobility you are going have trouble in a Fair Fight Scenario or a Mobile Battle.nathanr wrote:I've got them and the mortars to get me up to 8 platoons. Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
Here's the list I'm toying with for the January Tournament:
British Airlanding Company from Nachtjäger (Digital Exclusive) - Infantry Company
Airlanding Company HQ:
2 Command SMG Teams
2 PIAT Teams
1 Sniper Team
Airlanding Platoon:
1 Command Panzerfaust SMG Team
1 PIAT Team
1 Light Mortar
5 Rifle/MG Teams
Airlanding Platoon:
1 Command Panzerfaust SMG Team
1 PIAT Team
1 Light Mortar
5 Rifle/MG Teams
Airlanding HMG Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
4 Vickers HMG Teams
Airlanding Anti-Tank Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
3 OQF 6pdr Gun Teams
3 Jeeps
Airlanding Anti-Tank Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
3 OQF 6pdr Gun Teams
3 Jeeps
Airborne Armoured Recce Platoon:
4 Cromwell IV's
Anti-Tank Platoon (SP), Royal Artillery:
2 M10C 17pdr SP (Confident Veterans)
Airlanding Light Battery, Royal Artillery:
2 Command Rifle Teams
1 Staff Team
1 Observer Rifle Team
4 M1A1 75mm Pack Howitzer
Total: 1775 points
Platoon Count: 8
Everything (unless noted otherwise) is rated as Fearless Veterans. It has a lot of defensive capabilities with the 2 platoons of 6 pdrs backing up the infantry platoons. The infantry themselves are also more capable at defending against tanks as each platoon will have 2 PIATs and a panzerfaust team as well as the rifle/MG teams all have Gammon bombs so are AT3 in assaults. They can also lay down a lot of fire against infantry with their 2 SMG teams (if I add the 1ic and 2ic each to a platoon). I have a few options to pin platoons with the HMG platoon firing bombardments, the sniper and the light artillery. I have some mobility with the Cromwells and some heavy AT with the M10's.
All in all, I think it is a fairly well-rounded company and having 8 platoons gives me some options if the scenario says I have to keep half in reserves. If I'm defending 2 objectives I'll put an infantry platoon on each objective and back them up with a 6pdr platoon each. Or I could put down my artillery and HMG's and try to keep my opponent pinned while my other stuff gets into position. It all depends on the scenario.
It'll require some painting though. I'll need to get through the HMG platoon, Artillery platoon, one 6-pdr platoon, the M10's and the company HQ. Totally doable in a month but I haven't had the greatest ambition to paint lately.

That's a great list, I'm not sure how much use you will get from the artillery battery though. I find only massed artillery batteries at effective, as long as it isn't a huge points sink then its probably fine.

Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
So, I may have a problem with this list. I don't currently own the 75mm pack howitzers and I don't know if Dragon's Den stocks them. I could order them but who knows when they'll get here. Anyone have any that they'd like to sell to me OR I could possibly swap them for a platoon of 25pdrs (which I also don't have).

Re: Nathan R's FOW Thread
Alright, I made some adjustments and I think I like this list even more than what I had before:
British Airlanding Company from Nachtjäger (Digital Exclusive) - Infantry Company
Airlanding Company HQ:
2 Command SMG Teams
2 PIAT Teams
Airlanding Platoon:
1 Command Panzerfaust SMG Team
1 PIAT Team
1 Light Mortar
5 Rifle/MG Teams
Airlanding Platoon:
1 Command Panzerfaust SMG Team
1 PIAT Team

5 Rifle/MG Teams
Airlanding HMG Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
2 Vickers HMG Teams
Airlanding Anti-Tank Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
3 OQF 6pdr Gun Teams
3 Jeeps
Airlanding Anti-Tank Platoon:
1 Command Rifle Team
3 OQF 6pdr Gun Teams
3 Jeeps
Airborne Armoured Recce Platoon:
3 Cromwell IV's
Anti-Tank Platoon (SP), Royal Artillery:
4 M10C 17pdr SP (Confident Veterans)
Field Battery, Royal Artillery:
2 Command Rifle Teams
1 Staff Team
1 Sherman OP
4 OQF 25 pdr Gun
Total: 1775 points
Platoon Count: 8
I'm a little sad about losing the sniper team, I thought that was a fun little trick, but overall I think this improves the list. The 25 pdrs are so much better than the light battery and the Sherman OP is fun too. The other big change is going from 2 to 4 M10C's for that additional antitank punch. It comes at a bit of a cost as I've got 1 less Cromwell and 2 less HMG teams. I think it is worth it though. Overall I have more armoured models on the table and those that I have are better suited to deal with enemy armour. I won't fare quite as well if I have to assault infantry with the tanks but as I'm going to be the defender most times I'm ok with that.

There are quite a few German tank lists that are Auto Defend now...nathanr wrote:

It's going to come down to the wire here, I've got everything but the 25pdrs painted to a point that I can feel ok using them. The 25pdrs came in today so I'll pick them up tomorrow and blast them with paint and base them. I should be able to get that all done in 2 evenings of painting. If I have any extra time I'll do some finishing on the other stuff but the artillery is the first priority.

I sent it on Wednesday January 6 at 4:37. I sent you two lists, the first one is the one I'll be using. Actually, looking at my sent mail, I think I accidentally e-mailed them to you twice on the same day.
