Double check the rulebook - but at start of the movement step is when I believe they can.
So, as Recce they get a move (16" or 24" on a road) and then during your 1st turn they could dismount or you can keep them mounted and move again (in theory getting a 32" or 48" move). Meaning the weapons would be nice but you can dismount and be in your enemies back 9.
Also Recce Jeeps save as 3+ as per the rulebook.

I made some hills. I have noticed a distinct lack of elevation in my FOW terrain so I figured I'd fix that by adding some hills and some buildings. The buildings are hard but the hills are easy so I started with them.

Cromwell for scale.

Very nice!
Yes, elevated hills are fantastic in FoW!

Very nice, one suggestion would be to coat the hedgerows in water'd-down pva otherwise it will come loose really easily. I used that product and it disintegrated from travel and use.

That's good advice. My terrain boxes are covered on the bottom from bits of "trees".

That is good advice, I've got the same problem happening already.

A friend of mine has recently set up a cnc router in his garage and I'm getting him to cut me some pieces. He's cutting me about 12 feet of road pieces, several irregularly-shaped forest bases, a pond piece with a recessed center that I can use to experiment with water effects, and a couple larger pieces that I can use to make a farm complex and churchyard. Hopefully I'll have them done before the FOW weekend later in September. If this all works out well I can make some tweaks to the designs and get him to knock some more out if anyone is interested. Right now I'm getting him to make mine out of 3/16" hardboard but he can do all kinds of different thicknesses and materials.

I got my first batch of pieces from my friend and I spent the weekend flocking and painting and texturing.  ive still got 20 linear feet of road coming that I'll have to do some work on, maybe next weekend.

I want to make another one of these but I'm short 2 trees.  Andre, I think you picked up a pack of them at Christmas, can I trade you a big tree for 2 small ones?

This is going to be a farm.  I'll put a farmhouse and a barn on here and maybe a fence all around.

One of two forests.  The other one looks similar but a bit smaller.  They fit together to make a bigger forest.

I also got a pond piece, and a second big piece that is going to be either a churchyard or a pub but they're not done yet.

I like the little garden in the corner, looks quite real. What buildings are you using, any pics?

I don't have any yet. I'm eventually going to order some from 4ground but in the meantime I found some pretty detailed paper craft ones that I'm going to try to put together. Hopefully I can get a few buildings put together before the FOW weekend.

I've finished all the road pieces and have started building my buildings. Hopefully I can get them done before the FOW weekend.

The paper buildings I'm making are from here:

http://scalescenes.com/

They are not your typical paper or cardboard buildings. They have lots of different patterns for pretty cheap. I bought the church, pub and farmhouse with barn. I also got a free shed earlier and the coal shack that they are offering for free now. They aren't perfect for FOW but they are cheap and look pretty good. Hopefully I can put them together without too much difficulty. Plus if one gets wrecked or I need another one I can just print and build one.

Those look suspiciously good. Skeptical Don...is skeptical.

What scale are they?

You can get them in N or OO scale. I bought mine in OO scale which is 1:74 I think. Then I just print at 74% to get the 1:100 scale needed for Flames of War. The pictures on the site are the kits but they've been printed using a really nice printer on really good-quality paper and have had some TLC after being built using weathering powders and such. Also probably some photoshopping.

They look good in real life but not quite that good.

Assembling the paper buildings is tedious. I've pretty much completed the barn, just have to do some weathering on it and then I'll post pictures.

The barn is the paper version?

I added a second building to the farm tonight, as well I made a checkpoint road section. I made green stuff sandbags and a roadblock from sprue bits along with yet another paper building. I still need to finish painting it but I think it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. I'll post pictures once I've done the painting.

Really cool looking stuff! For some reason I like the little dock on the pond. What is this stuff based on? Looks sturdy.

It's 3/16" hardboard. It's the stuff I got my friend to cut out with his CNC router. I'm going to try to come up with a simple building pattern that he could do next.
