Edmonton Onslaught List?

Post  nathanr on Wed Sep 10, 2014 11:08 am

Hey guys, what do you think I should take to the tournament in Edmonton? Everytime we go to these things Don says "we took knives to a gunfight" so this time I want to bring a gun. Or at least a knife that can shoot, like that one in the Punisher.

You all know what armies I've got: dark elves (limited to my current all-cav list), high elves, wood elves, bretonnians, dwarfs. 2400 points is the limit.

That dark elf list is the nastiest - by far. Take it and flesh it out.

If I drop a unit of dark riders I'll be at 600 points for core (which is exactly 25%) and 2388 overall. I can add a 5 point item to my bsb so I was thinking maybe the ironcurse icon just for the hell of it. that takes me to 2393 which is about as close as I can take it to 2400. I'll have:

Master on dark pegasus - 1+ armour, 3+ ward vs shooting and magic, Lance with killing blow and D3 wounds in the first round of combat.
Master on Cold One - 1+ armour, 4+ ward, Great Weapon
Master on Cold One with Battle Standard - 1+ armour, 4+ ward, lance, ironcurse icon
5 dark riders with repeater crossbows, spear, shield, musician, standard
5 dark riders with repeater crossbows, spear, shield, musician, standard
5 dark riders with repeater crossbows, spear, shield, musician, standard
5 dark riders with repeater crossbows, spear, shield, musician, standard
5 dark riders with repeater crossbows, spear, shield, musician, standard
9 cold one knights with full command and banner of discipline
9 cold one knights with full command and razor standard
Scourgerunner chariot
cold one chariot
cold one chariot
5 warlocks
5 warlocks

Here's a douchey question, if I took 2396 points total would I only need 599 points (25% of 2396) of core?

U would need the normal amount for core because its still a 2400 pt game. same as if i brought only a Nurgle Daemon Prince worth 500 points and used it by its self to beat a 2500 pt army. id still need 625 pts of warriors (so about 8 of them) standing around watching Very Happy

Use the 5 pt "reroll one armour save" on a character and you're done.

I'm glad that considering we're both from the same area it's unlikely that we'll face each other.

That list gives me fits. Very Happy

Anyone have any suggestions for a somewhat nasty lizzy list? Ive got the whole collection a few times over but I can't really think of anything that would give much anxiety to see across the table.

I'd go with a monster mash backed up by some of those ripperdactyls. As many big Dino's as you can fit. It might not be effective but I think it'd be fun. I know almost nothing about lizard men though.

Two large-ish Saurus blocks, rippers, stegadons and chameleons, slann and scar veteran. Nothing over the top but its fairly solid and works well. I cant think of anything in the lizardmen book that would make people cringe, it just seems to me like a bunch of average units that work allright together.

I find there is a problem that the book makes you build all lists a certain way with little to no variations.

Most of the tough lists don't even use saurus. Annoying skinks for core. Terradons seem to be making an upswing, although rippers are hella cool.

I have the same problem. I'd have a Lizzie army tomorrow, but I can never settle on a list that I like. Weird army.

I have no idea now what to take if the "end times" are in use. This could get dodgey!!!!

Maybe I'll dust off my Empire army and max out on cannons and hellblasters, shake hands with my opponent and then tell them to f**k off.

Mostly just fear of the unknown. The 50% character thing could be scary too. Imagine 2 kitted-out daemon princes. It also opens the door to some of the more expensive special characters. The dwarfs can actually field thorgrim without it having to be a 3000-4000 point game.

There's also the new characters and units and magic lore to worry about.

My High Elf List:

Noble with 29 Lothern Seaguard.
15 Archers
5 Ellyrian Reavers
21 White Lions, FC
21 Swordmasters, FC
Loremaster with 20 Swordmasters
Great Eagle
Great Eagle
Bolt thrower
Bolt thrower
Bolt thrower
Skycutter

I could make the Loremaster and all the Swordmasters one unit of 40.

Try it out both ways and see what works!

I agree with Justin, you're probably going to miss having a frost Phoenix but good on you for trying a list without one.

The Frost is left out as it's expected and I'm curious to see what I can do without one. Another example of bringing a knife to a gun fight. Very Happy

Don i think i would make one large unit of swordmasters and maybe drop the archers in favour of more sea guard. How fast they melt in combat the extra bodies could be welcome.

10 extra sea guard? I dunno if that will be enough to turn the tide of any fight they may be involved in - at least a separate unit of archers is another target to divide the enemies attention.

Well im not sure many people are that concerned about a small unit of archers, they dont seem to affect much. Unless they are merely a bunker for.a.wizzard i dont see much use in them

Don, I like your list. In me saying that, it should give you the go ahead to "toughen" it up. I'm trying to bring a tougher list than I normally play with. We've been to a couple tournaments in Alberta lately and have always complained about playing with the softer lists at the event.

Here is my planned list......suggestions?

Grandmaster
Archlector on waralter
battle wizard (light) level 2
bsb
engineer

great cannon
great cannon
helblaster
10 crossbowmen
10 crossbowmen
40 halberdiers, detachment of 10 crossbowmen
14 inner circle knights
4 demi-griffon knights
