army builder

Post  Mhael on Wed Aug 13, 2014 8:46 pm

In my recent game against Nathan it was pointed out that i had a flaw in my army list. The new dwarf book limits points on runes for artillery. A fact i forgot when putting together my list. While i was only over by 5pts per organ gun and didnt have too much impact on the game we set it aside. It does bring up the point that with so many new books should we make it mandatoryto use army builder so there are no mistakes? Always or at tournaments specifically? Does army builder work on the new books?

This will allow for a recognizable forms and truer lists. This is an open forum so everyone weigh in (except Don who has hounded me to use army builder forever) lol

HA! Andre is right, I've hounded the poor fellow for a long time about Army Builder.

I'll keep saying it; Army Builder is like a crazy fun video game and you'll wonder how you ever made lists without it.

Hey, for a million years we all made lists on note pads, but AB is such an awesome tool. It's worth every penny and since you get 2 liscences per purchase you can split the cost with a buddy - which would work out to $20 a person.

army builder is the way to go, and it makes life much easier for tournament organizers.

I've become a big proponent of Quartermaster. If you use an iOS device, I recommend this over Army Builder by a longshot. Having used both, I much prefer Quartermaster for it's ease of selecting units and options via touchable drop menus. In either case, you still must check the template that you download for accuracy. Due to copyright infringement laws, neither Quartermaster, nor Army Builder can create the army book templates (they are all fan created). I have created 2 for myself, although you can download them of course.
It's flexible enough that you can include allied contingents and even Storm of Magic monsters. You can print, e-mail, or share your army list through QM, too.
Lastly, Quartemaster is cheaper ($8 when I got mine from the App store). Get it here... http://quartermasterapp.com/

Quartermaster or Army Builder?

Quartermaster never worked on my phone; I had to use it on my tablet.

Uh oh. Army builder is windows and won't work on an apple product.

I tried quartermaster again last night and got pretty comfortable with it. I prefer army builder but since quartermaster works on my phone, by default it's the best choice for my phone.

So, now that people have been using army builder and quartermaster for a bit, what are your thoughts? I've always just made my lists in excel but there is just as much room for error as on a notepad.

Of course you do. Army Builder won't let you take 300 points extra in a list.

HA HAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Seriously though, AB simply makes sure all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed. There's just too many ways to make an error on a notepad. Once you get used to Armybuilder, lists take minutes. The only criticism I have about AB is that it's so easy to adjust points that I'll run out and buy more models as I start experimenting.

Any program that adds up the totals for you and puts the list in a clear format is a winner. Should be required for any game a it takes away all questions and concerns of the players and or tournament organizers.
