This month I'm going to try to finish off my Dark Elves. I've got 5 dark riders, 4 cold one knights and a cold one chariot to paint. After that I've got to add snow and grass tufts to the bases on about half of the army. I'm hoping to have that done by the next masters tournament.

I will take part in this. Let's see if I can get some paint to some models.

Since I do not have a paint scheme yet for this army I am going to do 10 skeleton warrior models and will see if I can have them done by the end of the month.

Nice Rat Ogres! I finished off the 5 dark riders, 4 cold one knights and a chariot tonight which leaves me with a fully painted Dark Elf army! I'll post pictures soon or you can see them in person at the Masters tournament on the 7th.

Next month it's going to be wood elves.

Ya those look great! Last night I painted 30 dark rider shields and 8 musical instruments for my various Dark Elf units. I'm hoping to find time to put snow and grass on their bases tomorrow night. I'll post pictures one way or another tomorrow, they'll probably be crappy phone pictures but they'll be better than nothing.

5 of these dark riders, the cold one chariot and 4 cold one knights were painted this month, the rest just had their bases finished.

Thanks! not gonna lie im rly enjoying my dwarfs atm. even painting them. altho i felt slightly cheated painting irondrakes. they are just armour. the end. nothing else. im a little scared to paint beards eventually, but im sure trial and error will help me in that regard.

Alright, so May and June have come and gone. I gave everyone who had posted something in either May or June a star for the first month. July is upon us now and it's time to get serious with this painting challenge. I'll give Carson, Clark and Don until wednesday next week to post something otherwise they are out.

I will be painting 5-10 of the new wild riders in July as well as assembling my new flames of war army.

Ok for July i believe im going to be brave and attempt to paint 10 Slayers. The ton of skin on those little orange murder machines may be a challenge. Whole body flesh. Eek. Any tips? Atleast it will give me a break from painting metal!

Alright, the deadline for Carson, Don and Clark is here. I've given them sad faces, if they post something today those will turn into stars. Keep painting for the end of July deadline!

Sean, slayer skin isn't too tough. Do a basecoat of whatever you deem to be a good skin color for dwarfs, (I always used bronzed flesh) then wash it heavily, then go back over it with the same base color (leaving some of the wash showing) and once that's done you can finish it off with highlights of a lighter skin color if you like.

Skin is one of the toughest things to tackle. Be careful not to get the creases too dark, smooth transitions is what your after. Try mixing lighter colours into you base color for highlights to help with this

Mixing always scares me because i worry about not being able to reproduce the colour. But i supose if it changes model to model its not a huge concern. not like everyone has the same colour of skin eh? i started one slayer yesterday, im gonna post it on my army blog once i have one done just to hear what u all think. Slayers for being all grim and murdery they kind of look like clowns, just a little.

I also wana give them tattoes, like the barbarian from Diablo 2. kinda greenie blue. should i put those on before or after i wash and clean up the skin? part of me wants to do it before but i think i should do it after the wash... idk!

It depends, if you do it before it will blend the tattoos into the skin a bit which would make them more realistic looking but you'll lose some of the detail and you'll have to do cleanup on them as well. Depends on how much work you want to do I guess.

Hmm... Good point. Im going to test out doing both way and go from there. Im not gonna go overboard with the tattoos. Just gonna do a couple. I dont know what symbols to use tho
