6 month painting challenge version 2.0 sign up

Post  nathanr on Sun Apr 13, 2014 2:57 pm

Starting in May we're going to do this again. Sign up here!

In May I'll be finishing off my dark elf army with the last 5 dark riders, a cold one chariot and 4 cold one knights. After that I'll be working on the assortment of unpainted models I've got kicking around. I've got a treeman converted from a citadel wood kit that'll need some paint sometime in the next few months too.

Any interest in firing up another challenge starting Jan? I have a poor track record but I am plugging away on Nurgles best ever army right now and this would help propel me I think.

Yes. I started painting the dragon but I've stalled. I've got a few projects sitting on the shelf waiting for me so some motivation would be welcome.

how about gain/loose a point in the league ladder. I was thinking about forcing those that didn't make the cut to watch gay porn.......but that might not work for everyone.

Ya we could make that happen, each month you paint something you get league points. If you fail to paint something you lose league points?

I'd like some IRL implications. Stake some mini's or something.

I will wager my dragon-rider. If i do not finish painting it in January the winner of the painting competition can have it.

Is there ever really one winner though? My thought was for any month and DnF'rs would pay a fee of a mini or something. Mini's would be spread out at the end with first pick going to the person without any DnF's or something.

Or an all or nothing is fine too. How has it worked previously Nathan? League points make sense as well.

Hmm, I like that idea Scott. It would keep everyone motivated and the prize would be worth it at the end too.

So are we going to do a Painting Challenge for the new year? Im piecing the TK army together atm and im sure a painting challenge would definitely motivate me to get some BONES painted, If not ill have to settle for crushing the skulls of my foes under booted heel to motivate me !

Hey, are we actually doing this? My dragon is just about done but to be honest I've lost steam on it and I have some other stuff that I'd much rather paint instead. If we are then I'll power through and finish the dragon otherwise I'm going to switch gears and get heavy into painting Flames of War.

Re: 6 month painting challenge version 2.0 sign up

Post  ScottRadom on Thu Jan 22, 2015 6:22 pm

I personally am not continuing. I am 15 plaguebearers painted with 5 near completion but I need to hang tight and see what implications exist basing and army wise for the new 9th ed.

-Note this is not doomspeak, I am looking very forward to seeing what happens, I just don't want to pull mini's off 25mm bases I've sculpted up if it's a round based world-

I am all in favour of keeping the painting going but am taking this time to focus on leveling up my own painting. I'm finishing up an AoW witchhunter right now that I painted in mostly my usual colours then I am trying something a little new. I am also "throwing out" all my usual paint and trying to start a brand new pallete. Rather then reaching for my usual colours I am going to mix it up a little.

So if we want to formalize something that keeps people painting I am in but I won't be hammering out Warhammer yet,

Well, I'll commit to paint something each month then. I'm very close to finishing the dragon, did some more on it tonight. February I'm going to try building some Bocage hedgerows for Flames of War and I'll also try paint all my tanks.
