Spring and Summer 2014 League Standings

Post  nathanr on Thu Apr 10, 2014 9:57 am

Name-Army-Games Played-Wins/Losses/Draws-Points-Average
1. Andre - Dwarfs - 16 - 7/9/0 - 83 - 5.19
2. Dom - Lizards - 20 - 15/4/1 - 140 - 7.00
3. Sean - Dwarfs - 14 - 7/6/1 - 79 - 5.64
4. Don - Daemons - 34 - 18/14/2 - 192 - 5.65
5. Nathan R - DE - 11 - 6/5/0 - 68 - 6.18
6. Carson - VC - 16 - 7/9/1 - 81 - 4.76
7. Frank - O&G - 8 - 4/4/0 - 39 - 4.88
8. Justin - Skaven - 24 - 9/15/0 - 122 - 5.08
9. Bob - Dwarfs - 4 - 0/4/0 - 12 - 3.00
10. Darren - Ogres - 0 - 0/0/0 - 0 - 0.00
11. Nathan A - O&G - 1 - 1/0/0 - 8 - 8.00
12. Clark - Beastmen - 2 - 1/0/1 - 11 - 5.50
13. Brent - Warriors - 5 - 1/4/0 - 20 - 4.00

If I have your preferred army wrong or you'd like to change it please let me know.  Also, pay Don $20 or he'll break your kneecaps and you won't be able to qualify for playoffs.  Ladder challenges can be within 3 spots to promote ladder movement.  Initial ladder position is randomized with the playoff participants from last league getting the top 5 spots.  If you'd like to protest your initial ladder spot I'll take bribes into consideration Twisted Evil.  This league will run for 6 months.

I've updated the league points and ladder position. I tried to get the order of games right for garagecon, if you think you should be higher on the ladder please let me know. Also, Carson has requested that only his games with Vampire Counts be counted for his league points. I've re-worked my spreadsheet such that I can do that and still have his opponents' games count.

Example:
Don (Warriors of Chaos) plays Carson (O&G). Result is a massacre for Don. Don will get 8 league points and Carson will get none as he did not play VC. The only complication is that even if Don was within 3 ladder spots of Carson the game would not count as a ladder match.

If anyone else would like their games counted similarly I can make that happen. If you have any questions PM me.

Isn't it just a -1 for a non league army game?

Can you fill me in as to why Carson is asking this?

You are correct, it is normally just a -1. I think Carson wants to keep track of his record with vampire counts and not have it affected if he decides to take another army for a spin. He is fully aware that he will get no league points win or lose if he plays a game with an army other than Vampire Counts. I'll let Carson explain his reasoning further if he feels so inclined.

I like to only play one army and have my win/loss/points reflect that. I have and will play with other armies but don't want it to reflect on my standings.

Would we still get points for facing that army with our league army tho?

Yes. The zero points are for Carson only, everyone who plays one of his other armies with their league army will still get full league points. The only thing is that those games cannot count as ladder matches because my head would explode from trying to make that work in my spreadsheet.

Ya well, there's a reason we get along.

Now with that out of the way, I think it should be the same for everybody. -1 for a game with a non league army. Carson can keep his own records in his pink diary if he wants.  Very Happy

I've updated the league points. If there are any games that weren't reported on the league reporting thread they didn't get counted. Also I moved a few people around on the ladder. Nathan A and Darren moved down for inactivity. Clark moved down because he's moving away (or maybe already moved) so he likely won't be able to get games in very regularly. If you have games that you haven't reported yet but want counted I suggest you report them on the league reporting thread.

total points divided by number of games played. Your's for example would be 107/16=6.6875 rounded to 2 decimal places 6.69.

Ok, league is over. Playoff time!

First round matchups are:
Nathan R. (Top average) vs Dom (ladder #2)
Don (top points) vs Sean (2nd top average)
Andre gets the bye and will face the winner between Dom and I.

Edit: These matchups are a bit of a change from what we've done in the past but I figured that it would be easier to put the two Moose Jaw guys in the first round together.

Edit #2: If you participated in this league and did not pay Don $20, please do so immediately. Don is too nice a guy to go breaking kneecaps on his own but he knows people...

Re: Spring and Summer 2014 League Standings

Now that the league is over I took a look at the ladder.....was there any movement on the ladder at all? It looks like the ladder has run its course and a new playoff qualification should be used. I'd like to see top two in win/loss percentage and top two average points per game barring the top two win/loss qualify. Minimum 10 games played as we have a 6 month league.

The only thing that troubles me with this is that some armies have an easier time scoring crushing victories. These armies will dominate in average points per game over others such as empire, dwarfs, beastmen, O&G.

Any thoughts or proposals?

Ive thought that maybe the available armies should be divided into 2 tiers. The player with the best record from the lower tier armies gets a bye into the playoffs for the 5 payoff spots.

Or focus more on playoffs as the league is longer. Run it like the cfl...all but the bottom couple teams gets a playoff shot.

No tiers please. You'll never get anyone to agree anyways and if a fellow wants to play Beastmen, then he knows going into the league - that he's playing Beastmen. Very Happy

I'm happy to take suggestions for future playoff formats.

To answer your question Carson, There was actually quite a bit of movement in the ladder. There were also a lot of successful ladder position defenses which aren't as easily seen by anyone but me as I keep track of those too. I do think that the ladder has it's place and I'm hesitant to drop it but if the majority of the league members want it gone we can try something new.
