Post  Kal on Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:49 pm

Using the models i currently have (Except i gotta buy thunderers). but i have to build them still... all of them...

General 273 (goes in ironbreakers)
Lord
Shield
Oath Stone
2+ hit Rune
Double str vs T5 rune
Iron Rune x 2 (+1 Wound and Tough)
Rune of Stone (+1 to AS)

BSB 148
Thane
Shield
Double str vs T5 rune
Master Gromil Rune (1+ AS)
Iron Rune (+1 wound)

27 Longbeards - 416
Shields
FC
Stubborn Rune

14 Thunderers - 247
FC
BoP on Champ
Shields

20 Slayers = 285
Banner

24 Ironbreakers = 431
FC
Stubborn Rune
MR 1 Rune

Gyro - 100
Vanguard

16 Irondrakes - 320
FC
Drake Pistols
Rune Of Slow x2

20 Rangers - 280

I definitley was not able to fit everything i wanted. but alteast i used every model i bought (except a master engie) I think im investing to many pts into irondrakes for just 16 of them. i had 2 units of 20 but omg all of the points! No warmachines... cuz cannons be silly

The 20 rangers might be a bit much. They are essentially basic warriors with a ton of kit. If you deploy them as scouts they are going to end up facing the entire enemy army by themselves and die quite quickly or find themselves ignored and left in the dust. I think that smaller units of those will be much more useful, maybe even consider breaking them into 2 units of 10.

Other than that, you might want a runesmith for a bit of magic protection and the armour piercing bonus on one of your combat blocks.

But 20 rangers is something my opponent cant ignore while i have a vanguard gyro running up the flank as well. crunch crunch, no?

I don't have a Rune Smith model or id have shoved one into the Ironbreaker block. Im not big magic person in any of my armies, ever since it was frowned upon to constantly survive 6 dicing spells. Wink. so dwarves are a perfect fit with magic hate. plus i got MR 1 on my Ironbreakers, thats a pritty solid Magic defence brah

That's what I'm saying, I think the 20 rangers will draw more attention than they can handle. The rest of your army will not be able to get them help in time and your opponent will be able to take on your army piecemeal. That's not a good thing.

2 units of 10 will give you more options and hopefully draw less attention. It's your choice of course and I've definitely been wrong before. You should try out lots of options and go with what works best for you.

Ok thanks man, i might consider it, run em 5x2. altho my other super secret tech. (forgot to type it in) SUPER SECRET! is that the Slayers have the strollza Rune on them too! so my opponent will have a Gyro, 20 rangers and 20 slayers in there face turn one. bam

I really like the idea of you having so many small units with no magic defense. I shall enjoy making units of clanrats out of your tiny units. MR wont help you - no saves allowed Very Happy

Try out strollaz rune with two units of rangrrs. Either get there or hang back. No happy medium with dwarfs

Your plan sounds a little like this to me...

...your playing dwarfs and your plan is to run over there and get them?  I've been out for a while but seems like it may be worth a bit of a rethink.  But never know, if it was good enough for Stanz, Venkman, and Spengler (RIP Ramis!) then it's gotta be good enough for everyone.

Off the old book i have played an effective list of rangers, miners, two gyros, two organ guns and one solid block unit coming up the front. That was when you could take longbeard rangers though. Placement is everything and you can roll a flank with the rangers and support in the backfield by the miners while keeping attention with usually hammerers or ironbreakers out front. Organ guns help trim the monsters and fast cav while gyros pick up the low toughness fodder or go aftr missile firetroops.best part is its not an expected tactic so can really put your oponent on their heels. Plus its just fun
