Coming along Sean. However, until you master eye painting its best to not put white into the pupils as it makes the figs look like they have bug eyes. There is nothing wrong with NOT painting the eyes.

haha thanks Carson. and actually believe it or not I kinda was trying to paint his eyes like that. I wanted the whole inner fire thing going on so I kinda painted it white and then dry brushed around the eye socket. wanted him to look like he was filled with holy fevor. not sure if it exactly worked obvi Razz lol.

I see what you were going for Sean, the effect works best when you use a hint of color like blue or yellow, that way nobody thinks that you were trying to paint the eyes and just forgot about pupils

The effect I think you're looking for is termed Object source lighting or OSL. It's an advanced technique that requires a steady hand and lots of practice. If you search out some examples on the net they might give you some inspiration. I will just state again... it is an advanced technique. Done well it's awesome. Done poorly and it looks very, very jarring.

Scott is right, it is tough to master but don't let him scare you, give it a shot! I'd say a very light dry rush of ice blue might be the way to go. You might be able to use a light blue wash over what you have but I'd be worried that it would just make him look like he's got two black eyes.

Good to know, thanks. ... sounds more difficult then I had first anticipated. I will attempt some light blue and see how it goes. but other then that option just paint flesh over it all and leave it like that?

If the magical fire eyes doesn't work for you I'd actually paint the eyes in black or a really dark brown or grey. It looks bad to have them flesh color.

Sorry Nathan, I'd let it slide on account of your name but I can't play favorites here. March is the last month of the challenge so you still have a chance to finish strong. If you paint 3 months worth of stuff in March you can still get the prize.

How did everyone else fare? Carson, Don? Don't make me PM your ass Don.

After 2 PM's Don has not posted an update. I am assuming he did not finish anything in February and have given him a frowny face.

Don if you have indeed painted something I'm gonna need some pictures!

Nice work Sean! I spent the last few nights hacking up an old High Elf Tiranoc Chariot to use with some extra scourgerunner bits I had. I've pretty much got a working 2-wheel scourgerunner chariot which should save me around $50 and the hassle of buying and building another kit. It is quite wide but I think with some creative basing I'll be able to make it work. (Also see my thread in the buy and sell area for a chariot base).

Here's the scourge runner chariot I was talking about, a few more details left to paint and a base and it'll be ready to go

Looking awesome Nathan. So that's done and you get to give yourself a gift certificate? Razz

Not much time left, but I picked up an awesome pink paint and will try to batch paint horrors between writing paper times. On the menu - 3 units of 3 different generations of horrors:

I managed to finish off the chariot last night along with 5 dark riders and 5 warlocks. I can actually see the finish line for this army!

Left to do:
- 5 dark riders
- 9 cold one knights
- 1 cold one chariot
- general

The 9 cold one knights are half done already. I have 3 riders painted and 5 cold ones done, another 5 riders are assembled and base coated. The chariot has some components and one crew member painted as well, I'm just waiting on some parts to finish it up. The dark riders have the riders assembled and base coated, they are just awaiting their horses. The general is assembled and base coated but I'm going to do him last.

I'll post pictures of the latest stuff as soon as I put snow on their bases.

By tonight I should have everything done except the stuff that I'm waiting to arrive by mail. I went on a painting frenzy last night and pretty much finished off the 5 cold one knight riders, 5 dark rider riders and the general. I just have to do the edge highlighting on the gold and finish the cold one knight shields and they'll be good to go.

If my stuff doesn't come this week in time for me to assemble and prime it I'll have some empty bases at Carson's this weekend. Does that bother anyone enough that I should bring a different army? The bases will be textured and painted at least. I'll be missing a unit of dark riders, a cold one chariot and 4 cold one knights.
