Fall and Winter 2013 League reporting thread

Post  nathanr on Sun Sep 22, 2013 11:05 pm

Hi everyone, please post here with the results of your games here. Be sure to mention:

1. Your opponent's name and who won
2. The level of the victory/defeat (ie. crushing/regular/draw)
3. Whether or not a wild card challenge was issued
4. If you and/or your opponent were fully painted

I'll start:
1. Played Sean, I was painted and I won with a regular victory
2. Played Andre, we were both painted and I lost in a regular defeat
3. Played Bob, I was painted and won with what I think was a crushing victory

Darren (Lizards) vs Ben (Dwarfs) - In a match that saw Ben play his first 8th edition we squared off and his gun lines tore into me but in the end I was able to get the win in a non league match

Just played against Brent at 2500 pts (my Beasts vs his Warriors). Both armies were painted. Regular victory for Beastmen.

Minobus + chariot list (same list I used against John last weekend) vs a balanced Warriors list (a few units of warriors, chariot, unit of knights, shaggoth, hellcannon + support).

Essentially, early on, he accidentally allowed a razorgor to charge his lone L2, which killed him giving me dominance in the magic phase. He still was too hard for me to kill in a lot of cases, and he slowly killed all my support. The key point of the game was when he failed a combo charge with his knights to support his general who charged my L4 wizard's unit. There was a challenge, and he only caused one wound on my shaman (brought him down to 1 wound). Next round, a chariot flank charged his general, and his general caused the one final wound against my L4 with his daemonic steed attacks (everything else was always strikes last). He lost his general's attacks and stomp in the challenge, and lost 1 wound vs 2 ranks, banner, charge and flank. Rolled a 6 when he needed a 5, fled and was run down.

Another key point was when my minotaurs with doombull charged and killed his knights. He fled 11" off the table with his character, and I pursued 1". Not sure 2" would be enough, but 3" for sure would have given him a flank charge vs my minobus with a unit of warriors of khorne with halberds.

In the end, he had a unit of warriors of khorne with halberds (near full health), and a shaggoth on one wound. I had my doombull, my BSB gorebull and 3 models in my minotaur unit. Win by about 400 pts for me.

Other accomplishment of note: Brent's amazingly consistent exalted champion of khorne - 4 attacks most of the game (aside from the first round when he lost frenzy), was in combat a ton and he rolled 1 hit each round of combat while needing a 3+. Literally every round (probably 6 rounds of combat for him through the game).

Tooncon weekend, Friday night 1250.

Played against geoff and his Dark Elves. Massacre win for him, he was painted I wasn't
Against Dean, massacre win for me. He was painted - I still wasn't.
Game against Andre and Dwarfs. Massacre for me. He was painted I wasn't....still.

Saturday at the Den, 2500.

Played against Nathan and his High Elves. Both had Loremasters and was a very interesting game right off the start. I massacred him, he was painted I was not.

Game against Dom and his Wood Elves, and he massacred me? Can't recall. He was painted and I still didn't finish my army.

Carson came to vist this weekend and his Orcs and Goblins beat the stuffing out of my High Elves. Apparently the Goblins don't fear Elves...

Then played Sean and his Daemons. My Phoenix killed a Bloodthirster (very lucky of course) and the rest of my army massacred his. Neither painted.

The games from last Friday's tournament were counted for the last league but any games you had on the Saturday will count for this one.

Crushing victory for my Lizardmen against Carson's Orc and Goblin army. I never thought Fiery Convocation was that good but it decimated Savage Orcs. Getting it off turn 1 was helpful as well. Was able to charge his Arachnarok did 5 wounds but then torn apart. It ate an ancient stegadon with engine of the gods, my slann and his unit of 20 temple guard; the spider was ended by a giant bow shot to the face from my other stegadon (bolt thrower with poisoned attacks - god bless. I was lucky enough to get some lore of light buffs on my saurus warriors and they finished off his savages with general and level 1, then went on to massacre the bsb in a unit of regular orcs. my unit of 10 skink skirmishers with shields and javelins proved vital in maintaining my left flank. they took on a chariot (gobbo i think) and a unit of 5 wolf riders by themselves with no buffs. I happened to be extremely lucky with my armour and ward saves, much to Carson's frustration. I had a great time playing against such an experienced player. Thank you Carson.

I never thought Fiery Convocation was that good
Most would agree that every model in a unit taking a strength 4 flaming hit every magic phase - that also takes a 19 to dispel a remains in play effect is pretty poor.............Oh wait, I'm being sarcastic. Rolling Eyes

Andre and I faced off last night in a game of dawn attack. Andre had a pretty good deployment with everything prettt much where he wanted it, spread out qith the bulk of his army on one side moving together. My deployment however saw most of my army on the opposite side of the table against a few units. Andre took turn one and rapidly moved around to the flanks magic saw everything within 12 get regen and pluss one though. My turn one delt a huge blow to andre. I shot some leadbealchers who panicked then some ironguts followed by sabertusks all right of of the board. The rest of the game after that andre was trying to chew through 2 treemen, one of which was toughness 8 most of the game. With a lv 4 life around treemen don't die.

Crushing victory for me, no challenge and neither fully painted

I went down to visit Don this weekend and had a few games.

as mentioned above I took a beating from justins Lizardmen. Turn 1 an I.F fiery convocation cut my savages down by 1/2 and then a failed dispel on a 19 let it go off again..............Anyways, I was quite happy with this game as I came back and almost stole the game from Justin. The big spider is for reals yo.

Played Sean and his deamons. Have never had a good game against sean, got punched in the face by turn2, then punched sean in the face.Very Happy

took on the host in a great game that lasted about 6 hours,,,,,we were gabbing and drinking coffee and eating.....I sneaked out a minor win

None were painted, fun was had.

Bob (Vampires) vs Me (Lizards) both armies not painted
In a slug fest that saw my Slaan slayed I got almost all his models but he took enough so I only got a regular win.

Game against Chris / Grendel_thebrave

1250 points of my skaven vs. his Empire
using the Warhammer Border Wars scenarios.

Although my grey seer managed to survive two rounds of irresistible force, it ended being a complete slaughter of the Skaven.
Crushing victory for empire.
Neither painted.

Currently not a league game, but I'll sign Chris up in the league next time I'm at the den.

I played Brent last night in a slugfest between my dwarfs and his warriors of chaos. It was a really close game with a lot of epic combats but in the end the men of the North emerged victorious. We were both painted and it was not a ladder challenge.

Brent and i faced off twice last night warriors vs ogres. Sad to say my ogres had severe leadership roll issues and after two games the only thing to survive was my giant in the second game. Both were league games and both were fully painted

Dom and i faced off tonight in a watchtower battle. I placed six ironguts in the building which withstood some wardancers but succumbed to a treeman in the following turn. As his treeman couldnt take the building my big block of bulls took over.  Bottom of four all i had was that block with bsb having had my slaughtermaster sucked into the void and all my other units dead i stood and laughed doing nothing else. End of four Dom rolls a six and my ogres break out the beers. We played out the remainder with my ogres just laughing. Neither combat or massive shooting could shake them out. I was painted Dom was not. Win for OK  Dom and i trade spots.

My Lizardmen vs Sean's daemonic horde.

Crushing victory for sean. neither painted. New house rule; sean is not allowed to make any saves. no ward saves no armour saves - nothing! in fact no rolling dice of any kind for him. he will just have to make due with the movement phase lol

Second part of our campaign - My Skaven vs. Chris' Empire Army.
Last match he won, and the scenario we ended up with was: Guerilla War!
He called for reserves, and as they trudged along the road, my small force tried to ambush them.

500 points each, unpainted on both sides.
I managed to get a crushing victory, as he had a few bad leadership rolls.

As we had enough time, we played a second game, not counting towards the campaign.
Turned around completely, as his rolls were solid.  I lost, and he won with a crushing victory.

As he is not yet in the league, this is still a non-league game.
