Tooncon Tournament

Post  nathanr on Fri Aug 09, 2013 9:44 am

I just got an e-mail saying that ToonCon III registration is now open.  However, looking at the schedule I noticed that there is no Warhammer Tournament listed.  Is this intentional or is it just because nobody has stepped forward to run one?  What if mixed it up a bit and did a 2-day event with a small tournament on the Friday night and then a full-blown thing on Saturday?  Who would we contact about making this happen?

For those wondering, ToonCon is happening September 20-22.

Edit:
Blood Night II
Friday September 20 starting at 7:30 pm
1250 points, 3 rounds
Scenarios:
Round 1 - Dawn attack
Round 2 - Meeting Engagement
Round 3 - Battleline

Free with paid entry to ToonCon

I was wondering the same thing and noticed this thread. I'm totally up for a 5 game 2 day event. Having said that I suppose lets get an event first and then go from there! Smile

Ill help run if necessary

Sean, ToonCon is a weekend-long gaming event that is held annually here in Saskatoon.  They rent out a hall and fill it with tables for gaming.  Typically there is a Warhammer tournament as part of the event.

I've e-mailed the ToonCon organizers to ask about space availability for a Warhammer Tournament.  If someone wants to step forward to be the organizer that would be great, I can do it as well but I'd rather be a helper than the head-planner.

I really like the idea of a 2-day event as long as we have enough people to make it something special. We could also potentially run both a Friday Night Blood Night tournament and a Saturday Masters series tournament if some people could only make it for 1 day.

I would definitely be up for that. Great idea, smaller games on Friday and tournament on Saturday.

I've had this weekend booked off for the past two months. Gone the last two years, and found it a lot of fun.

Might not be best choice but I am willing to throw my name in for the position of organizer, happy to see people checking to see if we get some tables.

I was hoping to run the second masters tournament in the next little while. Should we leave it until tooncon or run one before that?

Any contact from the organizers? Who ran the last couple? If we're going to do this, we need to set up a leader, a helper and a butt-load of attendees.

I ran the last two, the contact is on the site. ON the Toon Con website is a link to email the organizers which would be John. I ran 4 different things last year was not sure if I was going to be her or San Francisco this year on a fun trip :-).

I emailed the address on the site and have yet to get a response. I agree that we need to get moving with this. I'll try e-mailing again.

I e-mailed the organizers again, hopefully this time I get a response. Lets really try to fill this event, if you know anyone who plays or has ever played Warhammer you should get them to come.

In fact, lets fill both this tournament and the Masters one at the end of the month. I'd love to see the back room of the Den full of Warhammer Fantasy players for the Masters tournaments, just to see the look on the MTG players' faces when they inevitably show up looking for space!

Got a reply back,

Hello Nathan,

Unfortunately, table space is a little restricted, as we've started to outgrow our venue.  We're looking at some different options for next year, but for this year we just have to do what we can.

So, That being said, I'm afraid that Saturday and Sunday during the day won't work, as all of the tables are already booked by other events. As John mentioned, we have Friday and Saturday evening/night available.  I know that's not an optimum time, but that's what we have to work with.

Can we figure out a way it work during those times?

So obviously this is not ideal but can we make it work for Friday and Saturday evenings or should we just make it an evening tournament on one of those nights?  Right now we are tentatively booked for both nights starting at 7:30 and going until midnight on Friday and 6:00-midnight on Saturday.

I was worried this would be the case when the schedule didn't show any WFB listings.

I fear the tables will disappear if no one is willing to organize the WFB part.
Happy to help set up once I'm there, but I'm too busy before that (wont make masters in August).

Maybe just make both nights small points (1250?).

Can't remember who organized the last two years, but my hats off to ya.

I vote that instead of being a tournament setting we just book the tables and make it in to two game nights where people can show up and play a game with whoever they want at whatever points level they want. That way people who want to play our standard 2500 points still can while still not discouraging players with only 1000 points from playing. Then also no one is stuck trying g to organise games and scenarios and they can just play.

We could also possibly have master's points up for grabs for "people's choice" army/ player/ painter/ so on .

Thoughts ?

I think that's a good idea Dom, so long as people actually show up. I'm open for either a tournament or 2 games nights.
