Capturing Banners

Do you get points for a captured banner if you don't pursue a broken unit?  I was always under the impression that the only way to capture a banner is to pursue a broken unit but how would that work against unbreakable units like undead or daemons?

I think you capture banners by makeing a unit losse there banner as a result of a lost combat... it that makes any sence. I dont think you actually have to pursue them cause the banner is killed when it flees combat automatically. And when you kill a banner bearer in vombat then you get the bonus as well.

Oh ok, I've been playing that wrong then, its only 25 points per banner so its not like its been a deciding factor in many games but its nice to know anyway.

I'm fairly certain that if an enemy unit breaks from combat that you have to pursue to claim that standard. If you test to restrain and succeed I don't think you get the points.

the banner man dies either way correct? Last Man Standing type deal? so if he is the last guy standing there he can't just fall over and die of old age. id assume the unit butchers him and chooses to not chase down the rest of the guys. idk that's how it makes sense to me

the BRB states he stands and fights to the death (he never runs), and doesn't say anything about having to pursue the foe to capture the banner. can't find anything in the errata to support this either.

Yep, I think it's a case of us old guys remembering rules from a previous edition.

Answer is if a unit breaks from combat you get the 25pts for the banner. No need to pursue. Its on page 143 and 94

You try rolling a 6 to wound with a 4 sided dice... Its not so easy is it sonny boy?

Kinda reminds you of the old grumblers rule from the dwarf book. We're just a bunch of beardlings. except Dom, he can't grow a proper beard.
