I think so too, but most seem to say otherwise.

Like the war hawk. A unit of those will look pretty sharp. I like the daemonette too, it looks a lot more natural and savage than you normally see them. I think a unit would look great.

Those look great Dom! From the extreme close-up shot it is easy to pick out the small things that could be improved. However, I think it is really sharp and will look great on the table.

If you want the small things, here's what I can see:

- the wash could be done in several lighter coats to make the transitions smoother
- the black areas (on the face masks) could be edge highlighted a bit
- The reds and oranges could use a little more depth in the way of shadows (in the case of the red) and highlights (in the case of the orange)
- some of the smaller details like buckles and such could be picked out with a metallic or contrasting color

I think those small things would really make the unit pop although they will also add to your painting time exponentially so that is a consideration too when you are dealing with a core choice that you probably have 20-30 more of!

I managed to get another unit of glade gaurd finished up. Exactly the same as the other two. Just in the nick of time for the sept painting challenge!

The painting challenge starts in October! Still, nice work. It's always good to see armies being painted.

Here are some skeletons I have been working on. Thet still need a bit of work and I want to add something to the bases but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I think they look great Dom! I would suggest painting the edges around the bases a darker grey or chocolate-brown. Also, use a fine brush and get some black into the eye sockets. I think that will finish them off nicely.

Here's a photoshop mock-up of what I'm talking about:

Looks like your making good progress. Hit the eyes for sure and bases. Great suggestion Nathan. I'd try a real light highlight on the gravel as well to make it pop. Maybe a few bones or pieces of discarded equipment on the bases as well.

I would be interested in seeing how close I can get with photoshop to look like an actual paint job. I think a white base coat would be the way to start.

I'm glad to see that you haven't given up on the undead Dom.

Well I toom nathans advice and blacked out the eyes and the the bases as well. I think it looks a lot better now. I did experiment with the eyes a bit, I tried red blue and a blue white. The blue looked not to shabby but next to the black the black won.

I also brushed on some zandri dust really light on the dirt. I still want it to look more swampy through. I'm thinking on adding some cat-tails if I can find some. I think that may help give it the bog/ swamp look I'd like.

Alos any suggestions on the shields?
I'd like to keep them simple and dull looking but more than just the mono green I have going on right now.

Any tips for a good rust ? One that if asked a monkey could achieve :-D

You could go really crazy with the base and use some sort of water effects to get a more swampy look. I've never used it so I can't recommend any particular brand or method but if you could get it so it fills the cracks between the dirt I think it would look really cool. You could even make some unit fillers with deeper pools and whatnot.

I agree that the shields need a little extra something. The rust that Carson is suggesting could be the ticket but you should add it to the spearheads as well if you use it on the shields. That would give you a nice contrasting spot color too.

swamp water is quite easy to do. Use pva white glue and pool it nice and thick where the water is to be. let dry and then use various wash colors on the dry glue to give it the swamp color look. I tried it on a few skaven test figs. I'll post it up here tonight to show the effects.

What colour do you use under the swamp water, if any?

just whatever you use to spray the base, it doesn't matter.

here are the quick pics of the swampy bases. Actually I did paint the dried pva with a light yellow then washed with purple and agrax. placed small greenstuff balls into the wet gluw to look like gas bubbles

That looks great! I think something like that would be a great addition to your bases Dom, especially if you added cattails to a few
