Doms warhammer blog thinger

Post  Kuyp on Tue Jun 11, 2013 8:33 am

So i figured i would just start compiling all my stuff on one thread instead of different ones for each time i start a new army

Im starting out my empire again and for June's painting comp I will be painting up a cannon and crew.
assembly is done and i made a base for the figs to sit on. for the base i stole Nathans idea of using a CD and then super glued some cereal card to one side and then primed it with brown.

The cd is great because it gives you the room to make a mini-diorama that can really tie your army's basing together while at the same time adds visual interest that you can't usually fit onto a 20mm base that has a figure on it already. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do Empire this second time around Dom. I see you have a stack of CD bases in this picture, I'm assuming you are fielding several war machines?

For sure am. Its the kind of lists I like. At least two war machines in every list, one cannon and something else. I put a balst on it this moring but im not sure about it. I kind of what to base the army like I was origonaly going to with a rocky look with some really dark grass. I should have some pics of the base in a few days

You just want some of the heat taken off you for using a Daemon Prince!

Steam Tanks were crazy good. Now, they're just "good".

I would fully expect an Empire list to have a Stank. Cool unit, cool model.

Good is good.

Totally cool looking model. It has steam points or something right?

To be honest I haven't played against a steam tank with the new rules. I imagine they've become a lot more reasonable.

When using the green stuff, if you use a tooth pick and push in you can make rough hair, or drag a knife through it to make a more flowing hair. also you may need a little muscle structure to give it some depth but otherwise looks great.

Looks good, just need to smooth out the transition between the plastic and green stuff, like geoff said a bit more muscle structure.

It's looking good Dom! Have a look at the centigor models for ideas, or look at the old metal unicorn model for musculature. What are you using these for?

I'm using a box of gors and chaos marauder horsemen to make them, I filed another horse down last night and took the legs off the gor model glued them together at the base of the neck. also after the green stuff was mostly dry on the first one I scratched some lines in for fur, and tried to smooth out where the plastic meets green stuff. I'm thinking I need to add some stuff to the fig to make it stand out some more though, chains to hold his front shied up, make it look like he's got some kind of armour to represent his light armour and such. ill post some more pics once I get some more progress.

You building a Beastmen army? You don't like the actual Centigor models?

I've seen these tutorials before and it looks like a crazy amount of work.

So, you've got Wood Elves, Empire and now Beastmen on the go? That's a lot of projects to juggle. Keep the pictures coming Dom!

I finished up a warhawk last night, nothing fancy here.

I also did a test fig for some daemons just to see if i like painting them. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and it was really easy to boot !

Excellent colour scheme for the daemonettes. Dang, wish I'd of thought of that. Well done. A daemon army in that theme would be pretty striking.

The warhawk looks really good. Nice mood lighting. Very Happy

Yeah, like what you did with the deamonette, well done.

"If" I built a wood Elf army I'd for sure play with a bunch of warhawk riders. I think they are actually better than most think....if played right.
