April 20th, what are you bringing?

Post  nathanr on Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:11 am

So with the regiments of renown tournament being scrapped in favour of an all-out 2500 point tournament, what are people planning on bringing? With no Blood and Glory scenario I'm thinking we may see some death stars. Here's a rough outline of my dwarf throng:

Dwarf Lord with Shieldbearers
Runesmith
Thane with Battle Standard

24 longbeards
10 thunderers
10 thunderers
24 ironbreakers
28 hammerers
1 cannon
1 grudge thrower
2 organ guns

A decent amount of shooting and a few rock-hard infantry units supported by fighty characters.

Ogres, as I am not happy with Lizards and the rest are gone. No death star, no second cannon, and one lord and three hero's. And three cats, just to fill gaps.

I personally find them easy to counter, and rarely see them do anything useful when I play against them. Those monster (mangler?) squigs are a different story. I hates those.

Actually, I don't worry too much about Fanatics anymore. Manglers are a different story as mentioned. They always die, but I HAVE to pay attention to them....or else. fanatics were an auto include, but I don't think they're necessary. But as an opponent - of course I would say that.

I ,ve actually decided not to take them anymore when I play orcs. They are 75pts that do nothing except kill my own troops. Personally I think night Goblins are overrated, Last league I always fielded a block of 50+ with nets and command. Even with nets (which are over-priced) they were easy vp's for my opponents. Units have so many attacks now that tarp pits have to be extremely cheap to be viable. The unit I fielded was always about 300 pts+. Way too many points for what they did. Fanatics themselves were much better in previous versions of the book having no armour saves against thier hits. I really think that to make them effective they should move 3d6 on release and then 2d6 after. Most of the time they rarely hit the triggering unit and then rarely do any damage, then more often than not they spin into the plentiful orc units around them (it is a horde army after all).
