It's on its way (2500 points of Tomb Kings)

Post  RickyDMMontoya on Wed Dec 21, 2011 5:38 pm

Settra
Herald BSB on Skeletal Steed with Standard of Undying Legion
Ramhotep

6 Chariots with full command
6 Chariots with full command

9 Necropolis Knights with full command

30 Tomb Guard with halberds and full command and Banner of Eternal Flame

So, what do we have here?
12 Chariots. Solid.

9 Necropolis Knights with a re-rollable 3+ armour save. Grindy grindy.

30 Frenzied Tomb Guard with Flaming Attacks and Hatred to clear the Watch Tower.

Settra to make the important parts of the army WS7.

The BSB goes in the Knights to make them truly invincible (or at least help Settra to occasionally cast his spell).

Smash mouth Tomb Kings? Oh yes.

It is a compact and elite list, something you don't really see with tomb kings. I don't have much experience with the army but each of your units is intimidating and I can see how it would work well. I'm disappointed to not see your heirotitan or bone giant in there, a model as cool as that needs to be used!

Yeah, that's the problem with Ramhotep.

He's the expert at making animated constructs, but his rules pretty much require you to take only Necropolis Knights.

I tried to make a list that is as "un-Tomb-Kings-y" as possible.

No weak units that are nothing more than free combat resolution for the enemy (and then free victory points when they crumble away). No overreliance on a level 4 Wizard who miscasts himself into oblivion. No Casket of Souls. No Hierotitan.

A Tomb Kings army that wants to be in combat on turn 2 (or turn 1 if it's possible) and hopes to grind the enemy down - but not by being resurrected - by kicking ass. It's as much of a departure from my Khalida shooting list as possible, I think.

I like it and think it would be a refreshing change to play against. Might have its work cut out against magic but getting into combat quick should help that. I second what Nathan said about using one of those snazzy new models, maybe trim off some models from each unit to squeeze one in?

It's not about points.

It's about Ramhotep's rules.

He lets one random unit of constructs un your army (chosen at the start of the game) re-roll their armour save for the duration of the game.

If I include my Hierotitan in the army, I run the risk of having that amazing benefit be totally wasted on the 5+ armour save of the Hierotitan.

It's idiotic. You should be able to select the unit that gets the benefit, but you can't. So I can't include any other constructs in the list without it being stupid. No Ushabti, no Stalkers, no Hierotitans, no Sphinx, no Colossi.

I see, those are quite the rules. Does the reroll stop if Ramhotep dies?

No. The re-rolls last the entire game.

He, like any Necrotect, also gives any unit of constructs within 12" a 6+ Regen save.

He also gives the unit he joins Frenzy and Hatred as long as he is with them.

He's pretty good, but easy to kill.
