Monstrous Cavalry supporting attacks

Post  nathanr on Mon Oct 03, 2011 12:35 pm

The rulebook isn't entirely clear on whether or not monstrous cavalry get supporting attacks. I looked in the FAQ on GW's website and I found these two entries:

Page 83 – Monstrous Cavalry
Add “MONSTROUS SUPPORT
Furthermore, the rider of a monstrous cavalry model can make
as many supporting attacks as are on its profile, up to a
maximum of three.” to the end of the paragraph.

Page 85 – Monstrous Beasts
Add “MONSTROUS SUPPORT
Furthermore, a monstrous beast can make as many supporting
attacks as are on its profile, up to a maximum of three.” to the
end of the paragraph.

So going by that I'd say that the riders definitely get supporting attacks but I'm not sure whether the mounts do. Normally cavalry mounts don't get them and therefore it is logical that the monstrous cavalry mounts shouldn't either but where else are you going to have a unit of monstrous beasts to make that second entry valid? Is that second entry there just in case GW decides to bring out units of monstrous beasts or is it saying that the monstrous beasts that are being ridden in a monstrous cavalry unit also get supporting attacks?

The unit type is Monstrous Cavalry, not Monstrous Beasts, as soon as it has a rider.

As soon as it has a rider only the rider can attack.

That is what I figured, it just seemed wierd that they would have put that second entry in there. I guess they just want to cover their bases in case they do come out with a monstrous beast unit. Or are there any existing units of monstrous beasts?

Razorgors, Dragon Ogres, Fiends of Slaanesh and Beasts of Nurgle are monstrous beasts that can be taken in units bigger than 1, so all those get to use that rule.

Except that in order to get a unit of Razorgors you would have to want to have that horrible aweful model.
